Require Immediate Payment if Buyer Sends the Offer

Hello all,

First off, I really enjoy using ebay as an online marketplace to buy and sell, and have been doing both on here for years. However, I need to suggest that Ebay implements more stringent policies on buyers to prevent flaking or wasting time for sellers having to relist. I think Ebay requiring immediate payment for buyers who send an offer on any listing should be implemented in 2022. I have had many listings where a buyer sends the offer on their own accord, and then never pay or even respond to the messages. That’s not fair to the seller because I am waiting for their response and giving them a grace period, but they usually end up never getting back to me. Now I lost all those days where the listing could have been active. Thanks for the consideration.

Why can't you cancel after 4 days of nonpayment just like with any non-paying bidder?

You give them a "grace period" and then complain about non-payment.

Or you can set your listings to do this AUTOMATICALLY after the 4 days.

Not sure why this would be a problem.  And, if you use FP with IPR, that also helps.

Do some more reading about sellers' options.

Here's the problem.

The buyer sends you an offer.  You see it  three hours later and approve it.  The buyer is now at work or on the way to Hawaii or something.  He had a 30 minute window for you to respond before Uber was waiting outside his door.

What we ended up doing was to lower the BIN price to whatever it was we were going to approve, or to our counteroffer price, then let the buyer know that he/she needs to get there fast and buy it before the next guy.  A serious and available buyer will do it.  Others may.  Some will flake, but your item is still up and running and available rather than tied up waiting for payment.

I've literally had someone buy at full price before I can even get my counteroffer sent off, and had buyers curse themselves to me for not just paying full price to begin with!

You snooze, sometimes you lose...

Require Immediate Payment if Buyer Sends the Offer

This very thing is being trialed with some buyer accounts now - once they make an offer they have to remit their payment details and if the offer is accepted the payment is taken from that source immediately.

Some sellers have complained because it can mess with the ability for a buyer to purchase multiple items and have them combined, other sellers think it is a great idea.

A seller has the ability to turn this function off if the buyer contacts them and requests it so they can purchase more items.
