Hi Everyone,
I am hoping someone can help me understand if this situation is a possible scam or something else. I am working with a client who called me today and told me they made a purchase on eBay that was never delivered, when they contacted the seller he told them he could not make the refund to the original payment method which was a credit card and that he would need to make the refund to the persons Apple Pay. Has anyone heard of anything similar, from what I understand you should always be able to refund the original payment method.
Thanks

The seller doesn't know how the buyer paid and has no say in it - all they see is a payment in their Managed Payments account. Refunds go back through Managed Payments to the buyer's original payment source, also not controlled by the seller.
The buyer needs to open a Refund request from their Purchase History for not receiving the order, the seller has 3 business days to provide tracking showing delivery, after that the buyer can ask eBay to 'step in' and resolve it.
They don't need to be messaging with this seller.

No... a seller won't refund through eBay and Apple Pay. The seller needs to refund your client through eBay's system, where the credit goes back to (just as you suspected) the original payment method... the buyer's credit card.
Has your client opened an Item Not Received claim? First, they'd need to do that if it's at least one day past the Estimated Delivery Date on the order. After that, tell your client to keep an eye on the case notes and ask eBay to step in when it's allowed, if they're still needed. Good luck to your client.
