Payout Question

I’ve recently sold an item for $10, paid for the shipping myself, and received a payout of $5.56 in my bank account. I was using a promoted listing of 4.8%, which only accounts for 48 cents. After paying for the shipping myself, I barely made any money and I want to know why I only received $5.56 for an item which sold for $10. Does anyone know?

Payout Question

Besides the promoted listing fee, there's a $.30 fee per transaction. (I don't know the fees for Jewelry.) And remember that the FVFs are based on item price plus sales tax paid (if applicable). Also... did you pay for the shipping from Pending funds?

Payout Question

It is really important to know and understand the fees that will be charged to you before you set the amount you want to get paid for your item.

Did you purchase your shipping label in Ebay or did you do it somewhere else?

You aren't going to make much off of a $10 books with Free Shipping.

You are selling this book in a category that is about 2% higher than another category under Crafts that it can legitimately be listed.

Doing promoted listings, the fee you agree to is on top of all your other fees.

But using the category you did, your fees are as follows.

 1.46   10.00 X 14.55% FVF in Books

  .48   10.00 x 4.8% Promotion Fee

1.94    Total FVF [final value fees]

.30    Per transaction fee charged by MP

2.24   Total fees

Now if your sale had sales tax that was charged to the buyer and paid for by the buyer, you have to pay that first fee rate of 14.55% on the sales tax amount too.

So now you have 2.24 in fees, shipping would be 2.89 for one pound or less Media Mail rate.  Whoops I see you say in your listing that you will ship via First Class.  That is a lot more expensive.  So depending on how much the package weighed, you paid anywhere from 3.85 to about 5.00 to ship if you purchased your shipping online.  If you purchased it at the post office, then you paid full retail so it would have been more.

$10.00 less 2.24 in fees [if there were no sales tax on the purchase] leaves you 7.76 before shipping.

I'm unsure of where or how we get to $5.56.  But you can see the details of how your payment breaks down in the Seller Hub under the Payment Tab.  There is where all your details for MP reside.

You offered free shipping. If you purchased your first class postage label on eBay, that probably cost you between $3 and $4. So that's where the rest of the money went.

That depends on how much the book weighs.  If it is 8 oz or under then yes $3-4 will cover it, but it if weights more than that, then it is going to be $4-6.  On a $10 sale you just can't make any money off a transaction like this after all the other fees and costs.

They could however minimize some of this for the future by using Media Mail.  Books like this do qualify.  And they can also list them in the appropriate craft category and save another 2% on the FVF.
