I find eBay to be a useful tool, however it’s becoming abundantly clear they have no customer service and cannot answer any questions with anything but copy and pasted verbiage meaning you never get anywhere. Any additional words that fill you with hope are just to get you off the line and are meaningless anyway. It’s insane in 2023 we can’t have a service that works.
I get a lot post about these holds, I’ve read every tedious word of their poorly put together “rules and practices” yet saying random and listing reasons may read as ok but it’s not good enough. They should be able to tell you exactly why moneys on hold. Whether it be because it’s the end of the months, first sales of a new month, financial threshold met or any of their vague ones, they should be able to give you a reason. If there system does something they should have to give you a valid and fair reason.
But you can pay out your own pocket after delivery and we will give you the money we held for no real reason, so I pay, post, track and live chat and you what? Just take profits. As I say I’m reasonable I just want legitimate answers. Imagine if your bank just randomly did things and said its ok because we say we randomly do things so you can’t be mad.
They keep saying to protect buyer and seller yet nothing protects sellers ever. I had one where a parcel was late, eBay encouraged me to refund so I did, it got delivered next day and eBay wouldn’t help saying because I refunded off my own back it’s not their problem even though they encouraged it. Had it not been for buyers delayed but apparent honestly with a bank transfer I’d lose out again.
There needs to be legitimate reasons, notes left on accounts and investment into customer service who can communicate without copy and paste. When holds happen, emails should be immediately sent out so it’s not left to surprise and anger! Not much to ask.
Secondly a day earlier for the 7th time in 8 weeks eBay did the double charge where one pends for a week and drops bank. Again customer service lie and paste the usual lies. They blame the banks yet I work in banking and the hundreds of companies I use precisely 0 ever have this issue. So it’s an eBay issue, I think linked to buying in groups of products and not each item individually.
its temporary theft, they admit they know it happens, are unable or let’s be real, can’t fix it as they’re just copy and pasting machines. As a company eBay can easily cancel the request and I know this for fact. They then try and say it’s standard banking, it isn’t.
They’re very questionably designed company that take a lot and provide very little, there’s no support or help, just endless hindrances and ineptitudes coupled with no one who can actually give you real information. They burn money on Twitter/phone and live chat body’s with no power, no software and no ability to be human.
Yet the people providing the things that make them money, or buy things constantly get screwed, if it’s 1 in 6 months ok but 7 double payments in 8 weeks and the holds are random too. I have no bad feedback, every order tracked and confirmed.
we deserve better!

I'm sorry your rant went ignored.
Here is what you need to know.
https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/getting-paid/getting-paid-items-youve-sold/payments-hold?id=4816
It's a list of conditions when your payment can be held.
I don't believe eBay will tell you why they're holding the payment when there's a payment hold. It's up to you to see if your transaction fits those parameters.
