New seller here

Hello. I just sold an item I forgot I left on eBay. The item is currently out of stock and the payment is on hold due to new seller policies. I'm going to cancel the order but it's asking me for a payment method to refund customer. Is there a way that the hold can be given back to the customer??

Yes, by providing a payment method.

So by providing a payment method they will send the hold back to the customer instead of deducting it from my payment method?

I'm guessing this figure is negative (red).  https://www.ebay.com/sh/fin/transactions

If so, there should be a button you can click to settle the balance.

When you cancel the refund is given back to the buyer from the Available or Pending funds, however the .30 transaction fee is still charged to you and eBay wants a payment method for that transaction fee. They want to put .30 on your debit or credit card.

the refund 'posts' in real-time

the original payment takes a couple days to process

in the time between the 2 actions, the account needs to fund the refund (from your funding source)

once the refund is satisfied, the original payment that is "pending" becomes available to offset the funded amoount

so, it's a 2 step process....in the end, you will be out the .30 processing fee

FYI, the item you 'sold' that you say you are out of is still listed as available?

Your item is still listed.

You gave a quantity of more than 1. It will keep relisting.

You need to END the listing.

Lift your left leg at midnight to start off on the right foot. Happy new Year!
