New seller fees

I used to pay around 10% in fees including PayPal give or take a point.  Now I’m paying a minimum of 13% up to 21% with managed payments.  eBay thinks it’s cute including the sales tax in the total for fees but it is just a sneaky way of trying to hide the ridiculous increase in fees!  If you haven’t noticed the difference in your bottom line you are frickin’ blind!  This needs to be addressed by the sellers.

You use to pay 10% eBay fees and 2.9% + .30 PayPal fees. Now your should be paying around 12.35% + .30 depending on what category you are listing in.  If you are listing in certain categories, yes, you could be paying higher fees, and yes the fees on sales tax make it higher.

New seller fees

It's been addressed by sellers dang near to death. About the fees, there are so many variables in each seller's items, categories, seller levels, etc., that it's just about a wash for many of us here. About the tax, no way around it.

Simply put, you don't know what you are talking about. You paid about 10% to ebay BEFORE AND about 3% to paypal.

There isn't one category now, that is 21%.

The costs are about the same NOW, as they were before with paypal.

Yup, you are paying a fee on sales tax. Go hire an accountant to file all of your sales tax remittance forms for you, then get back with us. I don't give one care, that I am paying FVF on sales tax. It's cheaper than paying my accountant to do it, by a LONG shot.

If you don't want to pay fees to sell, hang your signs and have a YARD SALE.

PayPal has been 2.9% forever.

How was it that you were only paying eBay 7.1% when everyone else was paying them 10% or 12%?

It appears to me that you are "most likely" deriving your percentages from the bottom line, but you have to sort it out by each item to have a real clear understanding of your profitablity. Then after that, the bottom line becomes recognizable, relieving the need of itemizing your sales thereafter on a regular basis.

It kinda like this, your item sells for 8 bucks, shipping is 22 bucks, your cost for the item was 2 bucks plus handling, eBay's fees on the 8 bucks is 10%, eBay's fees on shipping ($22.00) is 10%, total cost in fees less the processing fees, $3.00, so when you add it up and, in the equation of it through means of a bottom line, yes, the fees will appear to be in a high percentage, in which is factual so, when such is calculated by means of overall profitablity.

If the seller has been switched to Managed Payments, he's now paying 12.35% plus 30 cents in most categories, but is no longer paying a Paypal fee on his transctions.  That 12.35% is charged on the item price, the shipping fee and the state sales tax, if applicable.

ALL sellers need to take ALL fees into account when pricing their items.  That just makes sense.

Yes, you are correct, however, in my post, I was merely trying to make a simple point, less the processing fees, but you've felt it necessary to include that, so let's mention that there are other seen cost along with the unseen cost. But I believe people are self-knowledgeable about those cost.

And, as for pricing any particular item, well, one most be competitive with the fair market values that are derived from the full spectrum of suppliers, not just here, at eBay, for if one doesn't do such, then one's sales will be quite diismal.

You "believe people are self-knowledgeable about those costs".

It would be so nice if that were the case.

If the majority of sellers were "self-knowledgeable" about the costs of selling on eBay, then why do we receive so many questions from sellers who appear alarmed at the final value fees, or at the fact that fees are charged on the shipping price as well as the state sales tax, or about the fact that, if a seller does not open an unpaid item case, eBay will charge the FVF on that sale?

"Etc.; then why do we receive so many questions from sellers; etc.."

Yes, you're most likely correct; your point is very valid by your reasoning. Sometimes I tend to be overly understanding, it's probably one of my many faults, yet, at times, I am somewhat a knothole, either way, it's just whom I am.
