I just finished reworking the 4Q20 CSV report I downloaded ... this version is supposed to have the improvements, enhancements or whatever eBay is calling the changes. So, snarky criticism aside ...
-Sorting by Column B groups like transactions such as "Hold", "Order", "Refund", "Shipping label" together in sections.
-The "Hold" item section is comprised of actual "Order"s that were (in most cases) Refunded. BUT the Gross Transaction amount in the "Hold" section is NOT in the "Order" section. Nor are any "Hold" refund amounts int he "Refund" section.
-So what does THAT mean? Simple, the 1099K is based on the total Gross sales and shipping paid by Buyers (and maybe Sales tax, we don't know yet). The 1099K does NOT reflect any refunds given to Buyers and from a tax standpoint Refunds are recorded as a deduction. So a simple total of the "Order" will NOT give you the correct amount ...
-In order to have the Order section and Refunds section correct you have to rename ALL the items in the "Hold" section either as an Order or a Refund and then resort the database before adding formulas to add everything up.
This is a lot of extra unnecessary work ...
I don't bother with eBay's canned reports that are not in a file format that can be sorted and double checked ... those of you who do I think you need to be asking the question, "where do they arrive at their totals?" They could be giving you WRONG information ...

This may be a year where accountants make more money than lawyers.

I'm thinking the IT folks and neither of the groups you mentioned ...

I don't see it as a seller to buyer transaction any longer. eBay irrevocably transfers ownership of A/R at time of sale. This is evidenced in the cryptic CC statement transactions devoid of any reference to the seller and buyer info falling off the reports. So, a different Form 1099 seems to be in order - one that references only the settled amount as a discount paid on the transfer of A/R.
"To the extent permitted by law, you hereby irrevocably sell, assign, grant, convey and transfer to eBay and its Affiliates, as applicable, all of your rights, title, and interests in any and all accounts receivable, payments of money, and general intangibles owed in your favor to satisfy any and all obligations or liabilities you owe to eBay or its applicable Affiliate in connection with your use of Managed Payments and eBay Services for the sale of goods or services to your Buyers."

You're a supplier now. "your Buyers" at the end seems a desperate attempt to still 1099K you.

@veronicabooksandart I understand the statement ... we'll see what value is put on the 1099K eBay issues ...

Well, yes, a good IT tech who also writes code can make 400K per year twenty minutes from my primary home. I was just cracking a joke about the accountants people will need to hire to figure out how to sell on-line. My lawyer charges $350 an hour. I'm sure he is doing just fine.

@mr_lincoln just in case you didn't see it, the payments team just posted on the other thread that "Seller collected sales tax will be included on the 1099-K form. eBay collected sales tax will not be included on the 1099-K form. "

Of course it would probably be prudent to double check those numbers once we have the 1099-Ks in our hands, just to be sure. 😊

@mr_lincoln Amen! Proactive direct communication would go such a long way on so many fronts. And just think if they did that how much it would help to ease the load on their obviously overwhelmed support channels too.
Sounds like a win-win to me, but I'm not going to hold my breath. 😉

Then they need to stop inflating the sales figures they show on the Hub with the tax they collect.

@valueaddedresource I've brought that very point up more than once AND on the Weekly Chat ... they have NO problem messaging EVERY Selling account for Seller Updates ... why not just make a monthly message with updates ... folks can peruse that for the things they need to know ...
And you are right ... it would ease a lot of burden on The Community ... I'm already planning on scaling back here ...
