Managed Payments Issues

Recently, I enrolled in Ebay Mangeed Payments for sellers because the indicastion was that my selling acount would be limited if I did not switch from Paypal to Managed Payments. I have been very disappointed and frankly, I feel defrauded by Ebay, because I still have not received funds in my account from a sale 3 days ago. I miss Paypal, when I transferred the funds to my bank account myself, and the money was available the next day. I would like to hear from other disgruntled sellers and discuss ways around this inferior system.

Look at the payments section of a listing for a seller in MP, and one not in MP, and you'll see that there is at least one more payment option for buyers under MP (Google Pay).

It’s not just you, I’ve been on the phone trying to get my money for over a week. I canceled all the sales I’ve made since as well as purchases. It’s not not the end of the world but I’ve sent out out over 600 dollars in goods and my money it’s trapped in eBay’s system. The refuse to bay out in anyway other than there new useless system. It might be time to sell on another platform

I’ve spent hours on the phone trying to get my money from eBay to my account. Spoken to sux people all the way up the ladder. It’s a joke, they are unable to do anything other than say call your bank. I’ve used the bank for 20 years without issue, but I called anyway, the bank is fine. eBay is unable to work its own system, they are able to take money but unwilling to pay sellers if there system doesn’t work in any other way. I’m not talking about four days here. I’m talking about what is now two weeks. At this point I’ve been told just another five business days. This thing they have forced sellers into will be the the death of eBay. eBay has nothing to sell if it’s own. It’s an easily copied selling platform. The best part of it was the easy banking it used to have. With that removed eBay has nothing to offer sellers, if I want to have my items stolen I’d rather do that at the mall. There I can at least get my hands on the prick stealing from me.

Not True - my Ebay listings are now automatically defaulting to "Payments managed by Ebay" - it is not a choice - I can't change it - Ebay claims they are looking into it - that it is a mistake - they've been "reviewing" it for over a week......

Lol. Its more than obvious mam98031 is employed by Ebay. I just opened up a new account thinking I would sell some personal collections and items I own. Was ready to put some time and energy into this. I'm happy I read these posts and the policies required by Ebay to sell on this platform.. I think I'll just keep what I have and avoid the bend over. lol

Yes, it is a choice:

1) sign up for MP and continue to list

2) don't sign up for MP and stop listing

You apparently chose a combination of the two (don't sign up, but continue to list), which means payments from buyers will be held by eBay until you sign up.

"Choice" doesn't mean you get to make up your own choices.

Every change eBay makes has its haters and lovers. This has been true since 1995.

Hopefully eBay continues to make MPs more user friendly and improves the UX overtime.

My issue is more fundamental.  As eBay continues its Amazonfication of the site, it has become less and less of a pure venue.  eBay has become the arbiter of what buyers and the rules sellers need to follow   as opposed to sellers determining how to run their business and be creative in how they compete. eBay seeks a common denominator approach. Were all transactions appear vanilla.

As a reminder, pre-PayPal you could take any form of payment you wanted and checks and money orders where common. Not arguing for that just a reminder that's how it was. If I only took money orders, I guarantee my sales would be lower. But that's the sellers choice right?

This system also let buyers be actively involved in how they choose who to buy from. If they didn't like payment, return, or shipping policies they moved on. This made eBay a dynamic place where sellers could compete not just on product but customer service as well. Now its just expected, or sellers are forced to certain things like take returns on INAD.

If you had a reputation as a good seller you could in fact command a slightly higher price.

I am not advocating a return to the good old days (there were plenty of problems then too). Just a return to more seller control and emphasis on the seller themselves.  As an example, on the App (android at least) the seller is the last item on the listing after everything else (including numerous annoying ads).

That tells you right there that eBay sees the seller as a commodity and they are not interested in sellers establishing their own brand within the eBay platform.

Is the new definition of "join" forced?  Didn't really have a choice now did we?  I just got off the phone with the usual half way around the world ebay rep.  My USPS labels still get charged through my paypal account and since there are no deposits there, it gets taken out of my checking account anyway.  Just makes for more records for me to keep track of.  Everyone knows the reason for managed payments was never to help sellers but ebay couldn't stand the fact that paypal was getting that 3% instead of them.  We all know that if there was a decent alternative to ebay, 50% (at least) of private sellers would jump ship.  It has gotten out that if buyers just say that the item didn't match the description or doesn't work properly, the seller pays the return shipping.  I proved to them that the item worked fine (the buyer flat out lied) and I still got charged for the return shipping.  I long for the days when it was fun to sell on ebay and felt like they really wanted to help me build a fun business .  Now it's just "tough **bleep**, we're the only game in town".  "Our way or the highway".
