I know I'll hear all the eBay power sellers telling me how great eBay is, well I'm done with eBay. I had my first sale with this new system, and it sucks. Sold item for 625.00 and Ebay and they take 89.00 FV fee's. GREED ebay is all greed period. Then on top of this I'll be expected to pay uncle Sam and end of year. I'm not a business. I'm selling different items I've aquired and sell so I can buy other items. It's not income, I'm not selling 1,000's of items like a business, but that's how every seller is being treated now with the new system. So now eBay wants to hammer me like I'm making a living here. Hell if I was some big coorporation I wouldn't have to pay as much in taxes as I do as a lonley lower middle class individual. Coorporations get all the tax breaks especially the ones making millions. I just had to vent after being here for over 20 years. Sellers get screwed all the time here. Just one example of a saleI had where I sold Brand New Golf Iron heads to a buyer who then played the irons waited until last day he could file a complaint, files complaint and eBay rules in buyers favor, surprise surprise. After sending pictures from the listing of sale showing clearly these irons head were brand new in shrink wrap they gave the money back to buyer and he sent me back used irons that I couldn't sell after he damaged said irons. I pused through thatdecision by ebay to screw me but no more. There are plenty of sites to sell for free. So good bye.

"Big corporations" don't really get tax break, most of the time is trade off via hiring (payroll tax) or purchasing (sales tax). Many people got misinformed by politically biased media.
In smaller scale, some states have $1 property tax but requiring you to work on their farm land. You work hard and develop it and someone then throw rocks at you say you get "tax breaks".
20 years ago, eBay was one of a handful sites for selling.
Nowadays eBay is one of over 850 sites. Try mercari, rakutan, newegg, FB, Amazon...
Best suggestion is get a basic ERP software, set your base cost and fixed margin (profits), and add on marketplace specific cost. Yes you will find out you need to sell at higher price in eBay for the same item. But then it is eBay that choose to give away their business to other marketplaces, and you won't have such hard feelings about this "so many years relationship". You can always close shop here and sell elsewhere.
Many marketplaces have more advanced app to easily list items, no monthly membership fees, just one flat fee.
Alibaba and Amazon both combined were less than eBay in just 2010, they are now doing over 10 times volume so you know where the business is going. FB is surging at huge speed as well and the social media reference is far more trustworthy than the ancient feedback system.

As for any sale tax: that due to the state you live in. Its added to what your item sold for + shipping.
And with ebays fees and paypal fees what would it have cost you before MP????
It does amaze me that folks did not know the cost of doing ebay with paypal.

Ebay is a business. They make approx 12-15 percent maybe a bit more on average of the sales here depending on what you sell. If you are not a business and just a casual seller here these fee’s are going to be the same yes. If you would rather sell for free with no fees you must either sell in your garage, or find a place on the interest that is free—DOES THAT EXIST?. Anyway. Yes, people can send back anything and tell you anything to get a refund. It just goes along with this territory. Best wishes wherever you go and whatever you do.

The fees under the new system are virtually the same as under the old system. So if you're leaving because of eBay's greed, what took you so long?
As for having to pay income tax, that wasn't eBay's doing, it was the Federal Government changing things because too many people are evading taxes.
Stay, go, we don't care. No one is going to tell you how great eBay is, and at this point, we're all pretty tired of people announcing their exit. It just clutters up the forum.

I'm a part time seller here like you. I've been selling here for over 20 years like you. I'm getting by just fine under managed payments. No problems whatsoever. What makes me (or you) so special?
Good luck and stay safe.

You sell something. People pay you money for it. And you don't think that's income? What world are you living on?
05-12-2021 01:50 PM
Well at least this new payment thing thing isn't a result of the overdraft on my cash card. That's why I came here looking. I've been paid on a cash card, now they say I can't be? If their error had caused the change to only me I would be ripped. I assume everyone now has to link a bank accout????
As it is I too lost $700 to the return scams they encourage. Sold a one of a kind custom built air gun. The guy said the bolt wouldn't move .... this after I had to report them for trying to get me to change the shipping address through FedEX for a month. It was a scam all the way. The scum ended up crushing the gun in a vice and returning the parts. I can't even sell the scope that was on it, they bent that too. There is no, none, zilch, zero, protection for sellers. I was assured all during the process I was protected... right till it came to money. I lost 100%. Don't sell anything you can't afford to loose on this platform.

I know you're frustrated but I just wanted to let you know you're paying the same as you did before managed payments regards to FVF. It's just coming out all at once instead of Paypal taking their fees separately. 12.55% of the total selling price (including shipping if paid by customer, taxes paid) + .30

100%
Make no mistake this is not a partnership and never will be, you are only a number to eBay. When you start trusting eBay is when you get bitten.
eBay will never have your best interest in mind. Diversify as much as possible, try not to over expose yourself to this platform. I promise you will regret it.
Good Luck

I don't see the sale you refer to, but back to your issue... I'd recommend you revisit your Returns policy.
Had you offered Free Shipping, you could have deducted up to 50% when the clubs were returned to you in a different/destroyed/de-valued condition than when you shipped them. The seller performs this reduction and you could have done it. Photos don't help and eBay's input wouldn't have been necessary.
I know this won't make you whole, but will reduce the sting of the sale gone bad. Good luck in the future.

Right? It's truly astounding how many people have been selling here for years without having a clue that they've been paying fees to Paypal all this time.

Those fees are roughly what you would have paid under the old system. People
are getting sticker shock with MP when they didn’t understand that PayPal was also taking a cut.
if you want to leave, go for it! If there is a better site for your needs, great! If you find that the grass isn’t greener on the other side, eBay will be right here, waiting for you. If not, happy trails to you!

"It's not income"
Groovy. Then "what" is it?
Glad you were able to sell here before and not claim "income".
I have never been that "special"

Here's the departure board. You'll need to update it yourself.

Sellers that are TRS, and accept returns can deduct up to 50% for items returned in condition other than sent.
If you sell online you are a business.
You do not pay taxes on losses.
