Linking PayPal before placing a bid?

Is this a new rule? Just tried to bid on something and it wouldn’t let me unless I linked my PayPal or payment method.  I’ve used eBay for over 25 years.  Can’t even make offers anymore either because they won’t let you unless you link PayPal first. The ease of using eBay is declining every time I turn around.

Others have posted that they need to link a credit card or other payment method which supports authorization holds and PayPal is not acceptable.

Sellers have the option to require a buyer has some type of payment form on file BEFORE they can make an offer on an item. Not sure if it’s mandatory for people who run auctions? Maybe someone will come along and clarify this.

Not all sellers do this, as it’s currently optional, but it seems you may be running into sellers who are using this option, hoping to cut down on non paying buyers.
