I've been selling for a long time and have rarely had problems with non-paying bidders. More often than not in the past, when someone "accidentally bid" or changed their mind and has no intention of paying they've reached out and said so.
In the last few weeks (probably about the time I broke down and signed up for managed payments) I've had multiple unpaid items. Invoices and reminders have been sent, but I've heard nothing back. The bidders have decent feedback ratings, so I'm wondering if something's going on with eBay and others have had similar issues or if this is just dumb luck.

Buyers would need to be sophisticated to notice that Sellers in Managed Payments also accept ApplePay and GooglePay, along with PP and credit cards.
I doubt most would. And PP is still involved in the payment processing somehow.
Have you compared your UIDs to those last February? Or February 2019? Sometimes we feel there has been a surge when it is actually fairly normal based on a longer time frame.
At least with UIDs you can set your preferences to automatically open UIDs and give those deadbeats a Strike without having to do any actual work yourself.

After switching to MP I had an noticed an increase in sale hard to believe it came from MP who knows. With no payment problems. I would have to say you fell into one of those dumb luck situations. To be very honest I have no trouble with MP selling, payment and payout.

being in MP has nothing to do with non-paying bidders.
MP is a way for payments to be processed/received by the seller.
MP does not come into play until the buyer actually pays.
