I had someone buy an item, then turn around and request a refund

New to Ebay, I had someone purchase something and then turn around and ask for a refund. I tried to refund the money however Ebay insisted I put in my credit card where they deducted the refund that I had not gotten paid yet, then they had me put in my bank account information and it appears they took over 100 dollars out for selling the item that never sold. How do I fix this? I tried calling but that didn't work?

eBay needs you to attach a credit or debit card for fees that aren't taken from payouts.

When you refund eBay makes the refund from the buyer's funds that are pending but they charge you a $0.30 transaction fee, and that fee goes on your card.  It's possible eBay put a charge on your card just to make sure the card is active and that charge will disappear or be credited back. Check  your card tomorrow and see if that happens. All you should be charged on your card is the transaction fee.

Here's the actual policy explaining how refunds work. The amount will be paid from the total of your Available, Processing, and On hold funds.

In addition to the excellent advice/link from @fab_finds4u

This is what I think is happening.....

A refund is 'real-time'....meaning there is no 'processing' time/lag

When your buyer paid, that money is in "limbo" for 2 days (processing)

that 48 hour gap needs to be filled with some form of payment for the 'immediate' refund

thus, you either need to have those funds in your MP account, or they will be filled through your funding source (credit/debit card)

when all is said and done....you will receive the processed funds from the sale in your account, if you followed the proper protocol for a refund, the fees will be reversed (excluding the .30 transaction fee) and it will all be a "wash".....

you need to look at the whole thing as 3 transactions...it is very confusing to the non-accountant in al of us

I hope that made sense

Hmm what does it show on your CC account as being charged for???

How did you do a refund?

Did you cancel the sale or just refund em?

As for the fees they should be refunded, maybe the .30 will be taken out.
