How to give a buyer a partial refund?

I sold and shipped an iPod to a buyer, who claimed when received that it wasn't working due to a hard drive issue.  I agreed to a return and purchased a return label through eBay to send him.  He since suggested I give him a partial refund, he keeps the iPod and I don't need to pay to have it shipped back to me.

I have agreed to do this, but how do I give him a partial refund?  When I click the "refund buyer" button from the "Awaiting shipment" page, it only gives me the option to refund the full amount.  Meanwhile, his payment to me is being "Held from payouts until the request is complete."

What's the best way for me to give the buyer a partial refund, and for him to close out the return so I can get my payout and not have to pay for the return shipping label?

It it does not give the option of a part return they will just have to return it for a full refund.    If you go outside of eBay to refund it won't close the case and you would end up refunding again.
