The last time I had a non paying buyer was about 2 + years ago and I had to wait 2 days after bidding ends for payment which is fine. Now I see I have to wait 4 calendar days for payment until I can do anything. I see now that it says I can cancel the order on Monday the 21st. Bid ended on Wednesday. That's 5 days I have to wait. The longest I had a buyer pay was almost 2 days and that person let me know why at least. I haven't heard anything from this buyer. In my experience if they haven't paid in 2 days then they don't plan on paying. Just a waste of sellers time. Why does ebay allow buyers days to pay up?

A common complaint, but we sellers have to bear with, no?
Actually, the current UI cancellation takes a day less than the old method... that is, a day less to be free to relist.
You are correct... it's 5 days that you have to wait. You can cancel at 96 hours and 1 second... but that's still Day 5.
I guess we're lucky that sellers only have to wait 96 hours instead of 'After 4 business days'. Hang in there...

Thanks. Ebay says the Buyer will get a non payment for item won on their account or however it's worded so that's good. I have settings at where it blocks buyers from bidding if they have 2 unpaid items on their account in a 12 month period. It has been 2 years since this happened last and I see that Ebay made a little change since last time that looks like we have to wait longer. So I was a bit frustrated. I think I read Ebay will automatically cancel the item payment on the 4th day and relist. Now I have to make sure Ebay doesn't charge me the seller fee.

For an auction, 2 years ago you had to wait 2 days + another 4. Now it's only 4 days. Looks better to me, am I missing something?

Don't worry about that. If the sale isn't paid for, eBay won't charge you. 🙌

I think its ridiculous that they can have 4 days to pay for something, you can't go into a brick and mortar store and put something down on the counter and say, "I want this item but don't want to pay for it right now, so I will be back in 4 days" we aren't a layaway plan.

There are many people that bid and don't have the money for a few days. Not everyone is blessed with great credit and several credit cards and/or a nice balance in the bank to pay for items. Just send them a reminder notice ONCE. After 96 hours (4 full days after the ad ended), you can cancel with buyer did NOT pay and relist. Make sure that you block the buyer.

The obvious difference is that you're standing right there in that store. You know you bought the item. So you pay for it.
When I make a purchase on eBay, unless it's immediate payment required, I know that I have 4 days to pay. The items I buy quite often are auctions, so I don't know I have to pay until/unless the auction has ended with me as the winner. Contrary to popular belief, us olden folks might have other things to do besides sitting at our computers all day.

Absolutely, there are a lot of B&M stores that let you reserve an item.
Regardless, I don’t understand the frustration- eBay gives sellers the option to require immediate payment.
Are people really upset that there is an option that they don’t want to take?

Hi @jb_52
You are misremembering the details of giving deadbeat buyers a nonpayment strike to their account.
Two years ago ... it was a 2-step process. You could open the UPI dispute in the Resolution Center after 48 hours ... BUT you had to wait an additional 4 days before you could close it.
It is now a 1-step process that you can complete in 5 days.
And another perk is that if you happen to forget to give the buyer a strike ... you do not forfeit any fees. That's because sellers are no longer charged fees until the buyer pays!
[BTW, it used to take 14 days to complete the UPI process: 7 days before you could open a dispute ... then another 7 days before you could close it.]

Conversely, if I don't receive my item, I have to wait 3 or more days without the item I paid for to protect the seller, who's given 3 more days of reprieve they may not deserve either.

I agree. My issue is when the 4 day period for the buyer to pay begins; One the day of the purchase? Or, does it begin the following day after the purchase date? I have a buyer now who bought an item on Monday and is telling me he has until Friday to pay. This is crazy! We have a large store and if everyone begins delaying paying this will cause issues.

Think of it this way. In the past you could report a buyer after 2 days. Then after they were reported eBay gave them an additional 4 days to pay so buyers knew if they made a purchase they had 6 days to pay without a strike.
Now they get a strike after 4 days of not paying.
Do not remind them or send another invoice.
Just cancel after 4 days and relist. Put them on your blocked bidder list.
