Can't checkout - eBay won't accept ANY of my payment methods

I am unable to buy anything on eBay. I've tried 4 credit cards and PayPal. No matter what I do I get an error that says "check payment details or use a different payment method."  I am 100% certain of my payment details - which match EXACTLY to my Visa's & Amex. I've contacted my credit card companies and they all said there as been ZERO charge attempts on my accounts. eBay support says there is nothing wrong with my account and I should wait 24-48 hours and try again.  10 days later I'm still unable to buy anything, getting the same error.

I have a PO box for billing address and shipping is a physical address. eBay support said this is not the issue. I've had these same addresses for at least 4 years and 2 years ago bought something on my eBay account using the exact same address combination.

And yes, the seller accepts credit cards.  And I've tried other sellers too.  Nothing works!

I've read through all the knowledge base I can find on the issue, and other forums. Apparently I'm not the only one with this mysterious payment issue.

VERY frustrating!!  Anyone else having this issue?  Any ideas on how to resolve?

PS - I also just tried Google Pay which I have 2 credit cards on file, neither was accepted.  Same error.

I use these cards on a daily basis and put a LOT of money on these cards every month, pay each card in full every month, no issues with a credit limit being the reason.

Try another browser or another device to rule out an unlikely issue with those, just to make sure. Do you have the eBay app on your phone?

If you sign in to ebay.ca, are you able to make a purchase there?

Do you have more than one eBay account? It might be worth trying to create a new account to see if that makes any difference.

Are you able to make a purchase as a guest, while not signed in?

I use Firefox.  Tried Chrome and Edge, didn't work.  I will try your other suggestions.  Thanks!

Just tried checkout as guest and it worked first try.  I guess there is something wrong with my account, even though eBay support assured me it was in perfect standing.  I've only bought a few things on eBay so far, so not sure why I'm being penalized.

You are welcome -- glad to hear you were able to check out.

Now you just have to figure out what is up with your account.

If you have not purchased in a while, it might be worth deleting a credit card from your account and then re-entering the number from scratch; sometimes updating an expiration date is not sufficient.

I am trying to think what other data in your account could be causing a problem; possibly there are open transaction limits, but customer service would likely have mentioned that, I think.

Thanks!  I'll check it out.  think I may just open a new account.  I did add new cards to the account from scratch this week since it had been awhile since I purchased anything.  The transaction was only $250.  My last purchase was over $1000 and that went through fine.

I would not necessarily advise you to to do so. Ebay could permanently suspend all accounts if ebay feels you are violating one of their policies.

You could always consider it divine intervention and try finding the item elsewhere. I know I would at this point. 🙂

How long did the issue last and did you have to do anything to resolve it?

Hi.  I took the advice of another comment and tried to checkout as guest, using the same payment methods.  It worked the first time.  So I ended up closing that account.  Then awhile later created a new account and have had no issues with the new account.  I think I waited a month or two before creating a new account.

Had the same problem and of course one can't just call eBay, when they call back and speak foreign silly ness, oh yes everything is ok, it's the banks issue.

Yup.. on five different cards.

It's pathetic, they have forced me to use Amazon, which I despise, but they gladly accept my payment. **bleep**
