Anyone know how to remove the automatic default payment from their credit card information? I was making an offer on an item and it would not let me put in the offer unless I agreed to this. Stupid me clicked on it thinking I could remove it later but it won't let me. I've deleted my credit card information and when I put it back the default is still attached to my credit card. It's so unnerving to see a payment just to through automatically like that. It's not allowing me to control when/if I will pay. I often chat with sellers and we make agreements to payments/discounts etc. but my payment went right through without my permission but I guess it's my fault because I really did give permission. eBay did not even give an option to say "no" to the default automatic payment. I did not realize what I got myself into. Ugh! I did a Live Chat with eBay but I got ZERO help. You would think because they pretty much trapped me into this method of payment that they could easily reverse it but no such luck. Googling info but none of the suggestions work. HELP PLEASE!

I am no longe bidding on Auctions that require that. I recommend all buyers send a message to the seller telling them they are not bidding on the auction because of this. Personally, I don't know what method I will use until I check out.
I would also dispute the charge with the Credit Card Company.

I very often don't know which method In want to use until I check out. I have a paypal credit account that charges no interest on purchases over $100. If I am over the $100 I will use that, if I don't have enough on my limit there I may chose another method.
Hence, I am not bidding on auctions that are using this feature. The sellers are losing out.

That preference setting did not work for me. It says "managing who can buy from you", but this is about you buying, not someone buying from you. So maybe that's it. Not sure why it worked for you but not for me. I still got the automatic payment thing when I went to pay.

Only sellers can turn the automatic payment option on or off. Buyers do not have this option. Instead, buyers must back out of offers or auctions if asked to provide payment info. Unfortunately buyers have no way of knowing in advance if the automatic payment applies to an offer or auction, which would save them time.

This payment regime is obnoxious and possibly illegal, the US FTC should look into it.
It's highly manipulative, takes away financial control of purchasing from buyers and prevents all sorts of longtime buying activities like bundling shipping on multiple items, adding comments to sales, or just HAVING CONTROL OVER YOUR OWN MONEY.
If eBay actually did it simply to address deadbeat offers/bidders then they WOULD NOT HAVE PREVENTED USERS FROM DETERMINING IN ADVANCE WHICH ITEMS/SELLERS ARE USING IT, AND DEFAULTED THE SELLER OPTION TO USE THIS OBNOXIOUS FEATURE TO "ENABLED", ALL WITHOUT NOTICE TO USERS.
A few decades ago there was no such thing as "auto payments" from bank accounts and credit cards. PEOPLE HAD CONTROL OVER THEIR OWN MONEY.
Nowadays people have been increasingly arm-twisted into giving personal payment authorization information to a large number of companies who refuse to do business with anyone without being able to SPEND YOUR MONEY WITHOUT YOUR TRANSACTION-BY-TRANSACTION APPROVAL.
I'm sure Wall St. likes all of this because it means a lot of undeserved money gets received by companies they invest in who suck money out of "customers" accounts often without their knowledge or consent.

Thank you for your post. I totally agree with everything you said. and this practice hurts people like me who are good buyers and pay IMMEDIATELY!

tbh it makes no sense for "Make an Offer" orders to skip traditional checkout when "Buy it Now" listings still use it. That's part of why it's obnoxious; it takes buyers off guard, too.
