Beware of this scam!

this is email I received inquiring about a CL POST

I would like to thank you for your interest in my "2008 Airstream International Ocean Breeze Bambi" that I have for sale. Really good shape, never had any problems with it, no need to invest money in it, flawless exterior/interior condition has never been lived in, always maintained no leaks very solid nonsmoker very clean, has everything a big rig has but in a smaller package. With 4 sleeping capacity, length 16 feet, tv, the hot water heater is gas or electric automatic pilot, refrigerator also gas or electric, queen size bed in the master bedroom. Really good shape never had any problems with it, any scratches or dents, free of any Accidents, no loans, nothing mechanically wrong - like new!

If you decide to buy it, you'll receive all the papers, a buy-sell contract already signed by me and a clear title. I’m currently serving on active duty in the U.S. Air National Guard. Readiness Center (ANGRC), based at Joint Base Andrews, Maryland, I’m stationed at a military training facility. The Camper will be delivered from here, it is stored in a military compound. 

The Price has been reduced as ($1200.00 purchase price)because my unit will be sent back overseas to replace and help the troops scheduled to come home this year, and I don't want it to get old in a storage garage for 18 months. It will be delivered free of charge through military transportation service to a designated location of your choice, the average delivery time is 3-5 business days, depending on the shipping destination. (All destinations that are not in the free shipping area).

Due to the fact that this is a large transaction and both of our financial safety, I would like it to be handled by eBay which allows you to get the Camper first, then the benefit of a 5 day inspection period, and then I will get the payment. You will get a 5 day inspection period after getting the Camper to your address. eBay will release the money to me ONLY with your approval.

Yep. It's a big ole scam that we tire of reading about every day. Help the next guy and report the ad on CL.

This is another one of the oldest scams here on eBay! Avoid this at all costs or it will end up costing you! So glad you didn't fall for this scam. Here is how it usually goes down. 

The scammer usually asks you to pay with gift cards, anyone asking for payment by gift cards is scamming you. The sellers next step if you agree is to send you a dummy "invoice" that will really look like it came from eBay, asking you to pay with gift cards to have the vehicle/trailer shipped to you for a free evaluation period. The seller will take the numbers from them and cash out and you will not be able to get you money back! Then the seller disappears. 

The seller may even try to be more convincing by saying that eBay will send it from their warehouse. eBay has no warehouse and does not ship vehicles. eBay does not handle such transactions. So this statement is a lie. 

A vehicle/trailer should be sold through eBay and not a different site. When sold on eBay you will have some protection. Usually, what happens is that you have to pay a deposit. After the deposit, you then make arrangements to meet the seller to inspect the vehicle/trailer and if satisfied you will pay the seller the remaining amount. Never pay for the vehicle in full prior to your meeting no matter what.

I would advise that you report this ad to the site that you found it on to try and get it removed.

This Bambi Airstream scam is now on Facebook Marketplace. We almost fell for it as everything sounded legit, and then I googled “ Airstream scam” and it brought me to this page. The emails we received from the “seller” contained statements that were almost word-for-word the same as one of the posters above. I have reported it on FB marketplace, and will report to IC3, as suggested above.

I fell for it. Thanks for posting this. I felt so stupid. But I was stressed and wasn't thinking. Luckily, the $800 in gift cards I paid for are being reimbursed by Best Buy. It was weird, as I was giving them the last number on the card it hit me. I almost threw up. Anyway, thanks. I hope they find the scumbags who use this ruse.
