AI would like to clean this tapestry. Any suggestions?? I’m concerned about the colors running. I believe it was made in the 40’s or 50’s. The fabric is linen with cotton backing.

I wish I could help you out but for me trying to clean something like this is too difficult. You are right about the colors possibly running. There was a time you would have gotten everal responses here with lots of suggestions but things are super slow around here. We go for weeks with no posts at all. Hopefully eventually someone will have an idea for you. Sorry!

Thanks for your reply. I ending up soaking it in several rounds of cold water and than more soaking in a very mild oxyclean bath several times until water came clean. The colors did not run at all and looks a lot better!

I'm glad that you got it cleaned. I would have suggested hand washing it in Ivory Snow and cold water. My Mom did that with a Christening dress that was 90 years old and it came out great. Happy you found a resolution!
