Here is a challenge for some of you younger guys and anybody else who wants to participate. I just sat down here and thought of 40 names of railroads that used to exist in the 1950's & 60's. Without any research or cheating of any kind see how many you can come up with then maybe we will figure out how to comopile a list to see which ones we forgot. Mike PS: how is my spelling this time Dad?

Don't have that one in my listings. Are you sure it is a "fallen Flag"? In other words, is it still running? The only Port Huron I have is the Port Huron & Northwestern. Pete

When I lived in Michigan for a couple of years I believe there was a short line that ran along or around Lake Huron some where around Bay City (120 or so miles north of Detroit). Not sure if this could be the one or that one was a tourist fan railroad. Winters there were the pits. Lou glad to be make home in the Show Me State (of mind)

Pete, By the way, where are you finding all these? I really enjoy looking at them and trying to figure out whom proceeded whom like the Orange & Alexandria or the Orange, Alexandria & Manassas Gap. Does your sorce list any particulars like that or does it just give the names? Mike

Now the promised sources. I used three guides by Kalmback Publications: The Historical Guide to North American Railroads; Guide to North American Steam Locomotives and Diesel Locomotives, The First 50 Years. Also Railroads; The Great Americam Adventure by The National Geographic Society; long out of print. The first three books are very informative with histories of all these RRs, rosters, mergers, equipment, etc. Have questions about a specific RR? These books are the place to go. Also, I could briefly help you with info too since I already have the books. But go easy on me. Some of these RRs have extensive listings. Pete AKA Stumpy
