The Daily Moose

Here is a link to Bar Mills Models on-line newspaper and information station. Art has 4 new on-line videos that you might find interesting. The first two are about Bar Mills Models itself. The next two are instructive videos. One on different types of glues and their use and the other on the new Bar Mills weathering powders. There are also pictures of some of the kits available. Enjoy. http://barmillsmodels.com/dailymoose_05A_05.html

Re: The Daily Moose

When I used to operate on the club layout we did from time to time run full operations but usually run through's, I preferred the run through as we could run really long trains with about 4 engines, often put mid train helpers in as well but if by any chance we met leading into a single line area we had to work out the problem without using hands, I know this should never happen in real life but it did make it extremely interesting, fortunately most areas where this happened did have quite a few sidings, I loved it to say the least, the layout was cab controlled and all cabs ended at the start of the single line start so it made it a bit easier and the train coming into the single had to do the break up and shunt, it was cool, Pete has seen most of the old club layout and should be able to see what I have been trying to explain.

Re: The Daily Moose

Still ill. X-(  Now seeing a cardiologist specialist. Got blood samples done, another EKG. waiting to get appt for ultrasound.  Dr seems to think when I got the lung infection something else hit me also, maybe something viral that went straight for the heart.  Basically I get short of breath easily, like walking form parking lot to work, store, going up stairs in the house. It sucks bigtime.  Thankfully I'm back to part time so I can get a break from work and not be pushing it 5 days a week. I am supposed to get a 6 month fulltime contract but I can't do that until I do the physical fitness test. Had I not left that until March and done it earlier like January before I got sick, then I would have the contract now. \But then I wouldn't want to be fulltime with what I got. It was a hard go in March when I was finishing up my previous F/T contract.

Thankfully modelling isn't exerting on me.  🙂

Re: The Daily Moose

Sounds like the flu that hit here a few years back, my wife went down with it and it affected her heart, she is on meds all the time for it then the chemo didn't help, the doctor says she is at about 55% heart capability and she is constantly short of breath, she is in her sixty's now but was a ball of health before that flu, I do know people that lost relatives at the same time all healthy then destroyed heart muscles and gone in days, hope you have a good outcome Dave.

Re: The Daily Moose

Wow, this sounds really serious guys. Have either of you thought about a heart worm? My Dr. says it can hit people as well as dogs and cats.

Barry, did the bug totally destroy Fay's heart muscle so that there is no regeneration of the damaged part? She has enough problem with that chemo. The 55% heart function sounds very bad. I'm so sorry she is not up to snuff.

Dave, there may be something to a flu connection. My bro-in-law has not been able to shake an asthma like cough since a flu bout over a year ago. The Dr. has him on prednisone but even that is not stopping the hacking flu-like cough.

There must be a super bug out there........

Re: The Daily Moose

Wife heard people talk about the 100 day cough..

I think once the Cardio Doc gets blood results, etc  then he might have more to go on.   I don't wish this on anyone. It's one thing to have a temporary illness like broken arm, or whatever where you just can't do specific tasks, and the rest you can function fine, but breathing issues affect everything function.  As long as I can ride the scooter without it taking the breath out of me, I'll stay halfways sane.

That is if winter ever frikken ends here and start having spring like temps.  X-(

Thanks for the concern.

Re: The Daily Moose

Fay has not much chance of the heart regenerating, she get's out of breath having a shower, she still does all manner of things around the house but we don't go for walks any more, the doctors say it is caused by the type of flu she suffered, I was ill at the same time but it didn't affect me quite the same way, the doc say's the damage is in the muscles, nothing about a worm.

Re: The Daily Moose

Hopefully my problem will be curable.  I didn't do too much yesterday.little bit of modelling, mostly watched movies. After working F/T in March while ill, body might need these long weekends of low activity to help recover.  As April is a longer month, once I max out my 12 days, I will be off for a week and half before going back to work like May 7th.  (so much for doing kitchen tiling then)

This hit me mentally too. Basically trying to improve my habits.  Sounds silly but I quit drinking coke for the most part. I used to drink it almost a can a day, and since the lung infection, I wasn't craving it and since then had a couple cans and just didn't taste the same (may have been due to illness) Caffeine is like nicotine.  If and once I'm well, more walks in the evening (with the dog or wife) more jogging.  Like everyone else these days, should be eating more fruits and veggies. I've cut back one wince consumption a year ago (instead of 4 bottles a week down to 1 or 2) Even then 4 bottles a week isn't unhealthy.

Funny part is since drinking a little less wine, all these problems came along, like my ankle last summer and now this.  :^O

That's it back to a bottle every second night.

Re: The Daily Moose

Well life hasn't taken a turn.

I thought I might have over exerted myself trying to keep 60lb dog from going out the front door last sunday. I called in sick Monday.Tue morning got up showered out of breath, called in sick went to emergency. Got released last night. Not one of my finer moments in life :_|   Thanfully I did not have a heart attack. my specialist apt will be a lot easier as the doc will have all my results from hospital. Had EKG tues morn and again later in day. blood tests, xray.. They had me walk some and checked O2 level and was good, they were gonna release me tue eve as we told them about waiting couple weeks for a call for apt for a muggascan??? 3d imaging.... So doc said to hang on and see if he could arrange something so stayed overnight had scan Wednesday, they then wanted to do aCT scan to make sure I didn't have a clot in my lungs.so that got done mid  thurs . So by suppertime I was moved out in the hallway as they needed my emerg room (Cdn hospitals are swamped. Heard them trying to find a room in the city for some other patient as this one was full.

Result, thinking something viral f^%^%ed my heart. One chamber is working at 47% instead of the normal 60. This in turn means less blood to lungs. theres back pressure from my lungs and some fluid around heart and they think there could still be fluid in lungs even though xray didn't show. I won't be working next week and expect the specialist to tell me I'm not working either after next week.  I think I won't be working for a few months. Be filing medical leave with EI.

So still alive but out of action. I almost feel like I had the big one. I can't walk around as much in house before out of breath.

 did I mention Oh F&&^K!!!!

Re: The Daily Moose

I'm BAACKK!!!!!

Hard drive was shot after only 4 months. Farging Chinese crap!

Dave, people here are talking about the 100 day shortness of breath and other things after the flu. You might be one of the lucky ones! Not! Drink more wine. Alcohol is supposed to kill off those little buggers....literally.  Hope you feel better soon and they find out it is curable. Not to be alarming, but have they looked for the big C in your lungs?

I'll say a few hail marys for ya and I'm not even Catholic!

Re: The Daily Moose

Hey Dave,

Did they check you out for complications from that new strain of bird flu that is going around? They say it is nasty!

Still struggling with the confuzer. Going to look for a "Windows 8 for Dummies" book today.

Sure wish it would warm up.

Re: The Daily Moose

Pete, did you ever install the Windows Shell program that defaults the computer to the normal desktop screen?  It made my life easier to deal with win 8. Only problem I have is if I double click on a picture stored on hardrive, it will use the apps to view the picture and I get angry. Just means I got to remember to right click and open with window picture viewer.

Just gonna be patient, as soon as they release win 9, I'll buy/install it. providing it isn't loaded with all this apps crap.

Re: The Daily Moose

Fudge!!!! typed a big letter and it got dumped in the process of submitting it here.

Lets see,,,,, I was debating a loco for sale, can't buy both at the moment, either a Dash 8-40C or a MP15DC.

My specialist apt today.... dr didn't get ALL of the paperwork/results form hospital. Still don't know what's causing the problem, therefor can't put ya on meds. The request he put in for an echo ultrasound 3 weeks obviously didn't get done as the request goes out to all the hospitals and the one with an opening calls you for an appt.  (cdn medicare system to thank for that)

So now he is putting on his request "Urgent". He is gonna refer me to a specialist in his clinic that is a lung specialist. He at least gave me a note putting me off work until medically advised so I can take that to EI so I can start getting medical benefits. Be nice to get money coming in to keep the wolves off my back. Can't afford to be out of work for 5 months or however long when I could be drawing benefits.,  My mother told me that the benefits are good for one year so here's hoping \i'm better a lot sooner that that.

I'm hoping I aside from not dropping dead, that I will soon get well enuf to be able to do modelling for more than 30 minutes at a time. It would be super if I was at the stage where I could stand to run trains or work on scenery, etc.  This sitting/lying around watching movies all day/evening is wearing on me.

I'll have to teach my 18 y/o how to make wine as I can't be lifting boxes or carboys. I got a batch finishing the last stage ont eh table that will need to be filtered and racked for bulk aging in the cellar and another kit to be started so it can age over the next year.

[the one thing I would be devastated over with getting a job in Qatar, is having to give away my wine. Still got a carboy in cellar due for bottling this summer. (I year old)
