The Daily Moose

Here is a link to Bar Mills Models on-line newspaper and information station. Art has 4 new on-line videos that you might find interesting. The first two are about Bar Mills Models itself. The next two are instructive videos. One on different types of glues and their use and the other on the new Bar Mills weathering powders. There are also pictures of some of the kits available. Enjoy. http://barmillsmodels.com/dailymoose_05A_05.html

Re: The Daily Moose

Filling in for someone on sick leave so might be in the city for a few weeks. By then I'll be too corrupted to go back on the gang. Not hard work this week by any means, but that's the benefit of seniority as I got 3 months over the newhires that started month ago. The foreman is probably driven nuts with them right now without me. Got an email saying my application went to the selection crew so lets hope I get an interview. (for position in diesel shop)

Re: The Daily Moose

Now driving a retard around as he lost his license...again! Follow the surfacing crew and disable crossings and fix any cables they broke. Last couple days consisted of driving, disable crossings, sit in the truck for 10 hours. Off to Kenora, ONT to do the same. Surfacing crew do the tamping and ballast regulating. Consists of a tamper and groomer that has plow and side wings to move ballast around and a broom on back to clean up excess ballast . http://www.harscorail.com/products/surfacing-mark-iv.aspx http://www.discounttrainsonline.com/Custom-Finishing-MOW-Work-Train-Equipment-Loading-RampFlat-Cars/... http://www.blurredvisions.ca/mow.html http://www.nordco.com/Uploaded-PDFs/Sell-Sheets/New-Machines/NordcoM7BallastReg_SnowFighter-web.aspx Neat links..... -- Edited by ginzokid at 09/25/2010 3:50 AM PDT

Re: The Daily Moose

Is everything ok with you Pete out there? I remember Igor making way across Atlantic and then haven't watched news until the other night talking about the mess Igor made.

Re: The Daily Moose

We are high and dry. Almost everyone has power back except for the Burin penninsula which is totally cut off. We were off for 16 hours only. They really took the brunt of the storm. We had 230mm of rain....that's over 8" for you other guys. Lost a few tree branches but no trees like some of our neighbors. This is the first time an actual hurricane hit Newfoundland. We usually get brushed by. Not this time! Now everyone is buying generators. Panic buying! Interesting that the cells phones were out, but the land lines still worked, which is why I refuse to give up my land line. I plan on buying a self powered AM/FM/NOAA weather radio this week. I didn't miss the internet, but not hearing any weather news or disaster warnings was the pits. A lot of people are throwing out their spoiled food now. Princess hates the rain and wind......whimp! :-D Good to hear all is well. -- Edited by dl85vette at 09/26/2010 11:37 AM PDT

Re: The Daily Moose

HR dept called while (I was away) looking to set up an interview. Wish me luck. Seems like a lot of hoops to jump thru on this job. phone interview first. Make sure you forward your phone to your cell phone. Don't want to miss that call again! -- Edited by ginzokid at 10/17/2010 4:25 AM PDT I'm just gonna take the day or afternoon off to do the phone interview at home. -- Edited by dl85vette at 10/17/2010 10:52 AM PDT

Re: The Daily Moose

Did absolutely nothing for work yesterday. Foreman couldn't get any tracktime whatsoever in 10 hours due to steelgang in the area and lots of trains. I was more productive that evening with my laptop surfing web and watching the news on the psycho base commander on trial. You watching any of that Pete? News? Murder, rape, robbery, drive-bys, sexual harrassment, embezzlement, strikes, politics....on and on. Why bother watching it. :-p -- Edited by ginzokid at 10/20/2010 4:00 AM PDT

Re: The Daily Moose

Get an NCE 5 Amp Pro system if you do upgrade. The controller is similar to your MRC and the support is excellent. I know. Just a phone call away. B-)

Re: The Daily Moose

I still like the Prodigy line, such as the Advance or advance square 2,etc. I would consider NCE before Digitrax. Not that D-trax isn't good, but seems like ya gotta buy the zephyr or Empire builder before buying other style of handheld unit, if ya know what I mean.

Re: The Daily Moose

Know what you mean. NCE has a "starter" set that you can add on to just like my buddy George did. He just had to buy the 5 amp power unit and the command station to upgrade from the beginning unit. The old hand throttle is now his main throttle and he has added another cab. I strated out with the big one because of my larger power requirements in On30. So I can bring my main throttle or any of my other small cabs over to his layout and we can just plug in and run. Same for his units over here. It's really a simple system to move around from one layout to another. No, I'm not an NCE salesman...... B-)

Re: The Daily Moose

Originally was supposed to work out in Langenburg, SK this week (stay at Russel,MB motel) and drive to worksite. Supervisor has me going out today with the guys to Russel, drive to langenburg (30km away) in the am, do a job briefing, and then I drive a spare truck back to Winnipeg and work with a wireman for the week (outside the railyard at grade X-ing. We put in a new crossing across McPhilips Street (went from 4 lane to 6 lane street) so all new wiring, signals, masts and a bungalow. Plus the weather is supposed to be between -6 and -10 C so MUCH warmer than the -30s last week in Moosejaw. :D Also applied for an opening at the Car Repair Shop. It would be nice to get a permanent full time job operating in Wpg (rather than travel all time), but I wouldn't complain still having the winter off when I'm done this friday. 3 DAYS LEFT. woohoohahahahha! -- Edited by dl85vette at 11/29/2010 7:10 PM PST
