I just ordered this water tower for the layout. It is unusual and I believe it will add interest to my layout. It should work well even though it is HO. I can always lower the stands it is on. After all the steamer needs this. http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/785-241 I did a search on ebay but wasn't impressed in what came up. Gene

Pete, I put a bid in on your suggested ticky train water tower, what is a good color for making the tank part look reddish brown simulating wood? Gene

Gene, Color is such a subjective thing. We all don't see the same color the same way. My suggestion would be a Testors Wood, which is a light tan, weathered with a wash of ink/alcohol. A Boxcar Red would be "reddish brown" once weathered, but most of these water tanks were natural wood or actually paintd in the home railroad colors. Check out your own supply or the LHS for a color you like. Since this is a plastic kit, I would stick with the spray enamels. Once you have the color the way you want it, hit it with Dullcote to knock down the shine of the enamel. Sorry this is not a definite answer, but you have to like the color yourself. B-) & :x

For the Prof and other interested parties. Do you remember me starting a debate, not knowing I was starting it, about OO and HO Gauges. For your information. OO is mainly in England and is 1/76 Scale. 1/87 Scale you know as HO. You notice the difference when you have the same wagon of both scales, the OO is larger. yet the wheelbase is the same 4mm. Hope this helps, allbeit a bit late. John.

"Pete, I put a bid in on your suggested ticky train water tower, what is a good color for making the tank part look reddish brown simulating wood? Gene" Gene, Starting on Page 66 of the July issue of Railroad Model Craftsman is a great article on how to make styrene look like wood. This should answer all your questions for the water tank.
