New Christmas Tree Layout

Today I hit the lumber yard for some plywood, boards, screws, etc. I'm going to build a new HO layout for the tree. After last year's running it on the carpet, I decided I needed more work to do. Right. So, I'll post pics and reports as I go along. We are going to dismantle the dining table and store it in the basement for the season. That is the space I need for this layout. We don't feed anybody but us in the kitchen during the holidays anyway, so we don't really need the table. Well, gotta get started...... SmileyCentral.com

Re: New Christmas Tree Layout

Still waiting for those wing walls. Meanwhile, I'm decaling and assembling the G&D train. The engine and two cars are done. I'll post pics when they are complete. B-) The train is done but my picture taking efforts went south. All shakey. I'll have to try again tomorrow. -- Edited by ginzokid at 11/09/2008 10:05 AM PST

Re: New Christmas Tree Layout

Well the train photos are up. Sorry about the lighting. I'm not really a good photographer. Barry did a wounderful paint job for me. He also did a few N scale cars for me to convert to G&D. Maybe I'll do those soon. B-)

Re: New Christmas Tree Layout

Well guys, I finished the plastering today but darn ebay says I'm at my picture limit, so I can't post them. I deleted three other albums of mine and still no go. I'll try tomorrow. It must be a glitch. It's all white now. B-) PS: I managed to get another album listed but only one photo. I still don't understand. -- Edited by ginzokid at 11/15/2008 10:52 AM PST

Re: New Christmas Tree Layout

I successfully opened another album with one of my alter-ego IDs. Guess this is the way to go for now. Next up is a little color. B-)

Re: New Christmas Tree Layout

It took a long time to get back to it, but here are some updated photos of the tree layout. It's starting to turn green! Check in Album II. I said I wasn't going to ballast the track, but guess what? It looks much better with it than without. I may not finish the scenery before Christmas, but remember, this is an on-going layout with stuff to be added each year. Anyway, I'm having fun and isn't that what this is all about? B-) SmileyCentral.com -- Edited by ginzokid at 11/30/2008 8:39 AM PST

Had a rare idea!!! How about after the holidays, removing the tree and stand, putting a pexiglass and wood frame cover over the Christmas tree layout and presto-chango a coffee table layout!! or Putting some legs under the layout and a small plexiglass cover and wala(sp) a new dining room table!! chew chew whoohoo!! Boy that Y3 2882 must be inspiring me. Even went downstairs yesterday and built a coal station bin for coal from scrap wood. second thing I have scratch built recently was a truck dump. Can't believe that these two items were so expensive if I had bought them in kit form. Gene

Re: New Christmas Tree Layout

Nice idea but at 4'x6' it is a little big for a coffee table. I tried the dining room table idea when I was designing it and the brass hat said...."NO!!!!!!" Actually it will be proped up against the wall in the basement and each year there will be something added to it. I have purchased a lot of HO kits for it, so I'll be busy for sure. B-)

Re: New Christmas Tree Layout

A couple more pictures are posted for you. I'm going to do a few more trees on the other hill and then call it quits for this year. I have a lot of buildings to do over the next couple of years and will add a little more scenery as I go. This layout will also have an MRC syncro sound unit. Maybe I can get a small movie made once it is running. Anyway, more pictures to come. B-)
