Re: Irritations #2

Got up on the roof (I'm afraid of heights!) to patch the leak in the garage. Found out that where the new flashing at the eave was just installed that the workers never caulked in the joint between the upper and lower roof! No wonder water was pouring in. I took my little can of black mastic and slathered the gook into every crook and nanny I could find. Hope I got it all because I was on my stomach under the eave from the upper roof trying to reach into that awfully tight space where the soffit meets the roofing. It aint neat, but it looks stuffed to me. Rain today maybe with high winds will tell if I did a good job. :|

Came off a midnight shift this am. It was a long one... 10pm-9AM. the last 3 hours should be overtime pay at last. Off tonight and tomorrow day and then another midnight shift (8 hours per night) for 2 nights. I should be mal adjusted come weekend. I thought you quit that job? BTW, you're mal adjusted normally....... ]:) -- Edited by ginzokid at 10/21/2009 4:08 AM PDT -- Edited by ginzokid at 10/21/2009 4:09 AM PDT Waiting to get into the reserves so I can then QUIT. Until then I need a paycheck. Two more midnights starting tonite. Plus side of mids is not much goes on and I don't have to deal with people much at all. Nore do I have to work with a grumpy old man either that works there. -- Edited by dl85vette at 10/21/2009 8:39 AM PDT

Re: Irritations #2

Well she has filed for disability and we just mailed back the first volume of the Government's version of Gone With the Wind. So it is hurry up and wait. Well I will say she's doing some better but still gets tired some what easily. Other wise we are just getting ready for Thanksgiving and relaxing. Have not done much on the railroad, except with the time I have started to think about a new track plan that will make the layout smaller, but with the option to expand. Just need to figure which end would be better for the expansion. Also have the details for my gas station and am fiddling with it some. Lou

Re: Irritations #2

Lou, If you are talking about Social Security, it will take 5 to 7 months for them to do the paperwork and investigation; contacting doctors etc. The only nice thing is that the first check is back dated to the date she filed. It could be a big fat check depending on how long the process takes. When I filed from up here it took 11 months. Now that was one HUGE check! B-)

Re: Irritations #2

Had internet issues last week. cable guy fixed some connectors. Internet worked fine friday and sat. Got on this morning at 8 am. At 840 am after unplugging and replgging modem and router no internet. called Shaw. They said internet signal was good and juding by speed of computer it was forked (alternate word choice) suggested I clean the HD. SO after spending most of the day burning dvds and copying files onto external HD I was then ready for format the HD. What a waste of my day off for fork sakes!!!!!!!!!!! Didn't do anything that I had planned as this &%&^%$%$%^ thing took all day. SO if I was going to trouble to format and reinstall programs, be damned if I'm gonna run Vista again!! So 150 bucks later for Win 7. Subtle difference but enough to get use to the display. Seem to get internet no problem. WOW!!! was my system bad. I can't believe how much faster internet is loading pages. I just transfered 600Meg of files in around 2 minutes, (that would have taken 10 minutes earlier today) Definately need to format HD something bad. gotta go and piece together my files again.

Re: Irritations #2

Gee Dave I wouldn't have a clue as how to do what you did. Actually I'm still trying to figure out some of the terms you used. Talked to my nephew who is a computer security consultant and he said for what I use the confuser to due, not to bother with getting 7. My Vista runs OK and seems to be fast. But I don't play games, store music or write books on the damn thing anyway. I had Rogers cable internet but switched to the ultra-high speed from the phone company, Aliant. About three times faster than the cable and a lot more reliable. Now back to my typewriter....... ;-)

Re: Irritations #2

Aside from the unexpected expense, what griped me the most was losing my entire sunday to deal with this. It took me longer to burn off cds/dvd and transfering to external HD than the time it took it install win7 which wipes the HD and its partitions in the process. What what I can tell, the home permium doesn't have any office prgrams, spread sheets, etc. I have my N scale collection and nascar pool on a MS Works (came with vista)spreadsheet. Now I gotta try to download something or just go out and buy it. I would rather pay a few dollars more to physically have a program rather than buying off net. I've done McAffee off net and of course now that I wiped HD I lost the install program (didn't back it up) Mind you I got an email backdated 15 Nov saying it subsript has 30 days left on it. So rather than paying $$$ to renew and redownload, I downloaded the antivirus prog from shaw. It's free to customers. So they are big comany so they aren't gonna fool around with some cheapass program so I imagine theirs should be good enuf. It does updates etc.. More $$$ will need to be spent to up my RAM. only running half a gig.

Re: Irritations #2

Dave, You should be able to log into McAfee.com, open your account and download what you already paid for. Do it as an update. B-) -- Edited by ginzokid at 11/30/2009 8:26 AM PST Wasn't worth the effort as only 15 days left to subscription. I installed Shaw's program so computer is done. I don't have to uninstall/install new stuff in 15 days. It's ll about making my life simpler with this thing. -- Edited by dl85vette at 11/30/2009 4:52 PM PST

Re: Irritations #2

Dave, Buying the memory might be one of the cheaper things you do. I suppose you keep the automatic windows update set to on. I always have the windows updates download and install automatically, it can be pretty important for security fixes. Charles PS, we have windows 7 we should be installing sometime soon. PPS, I hope the cable guy did not inadvertently put something on your computer... Shaw Cable is a big company in Canada. Really good customer support. -- Edited by dl85vette at 11/30/2009 8:20 PM PST
