Groups in Jeopardy?

As most of you have probably heard , ebay has had another lay off, of 1,000 employees. I have been in contact with maeve, she said it is ok for me to mention this in my groups. Maeve is one of the 1,000 that will be leaving ebay. Her last day with ebay is Oct. 17th, she does not know what will become of groups, but said it is ok to mention that she will not be with ebay after Oct. 17th What this means we don't know as yet since the groups are run by Live World. My concern is that Maeve was very groups oriented and did a lot to make them usefull to all of us. We will just have to wait until ebay tells us what is happening. If the groups are still a viable part of ebay, I personally hope they find someone who is not being "downsized" and really cares to keep this forum alive. We may have to find another way to communicate. Be prepared guys. Should we start a Yahoo group to replace OG? It won't be the same though since we often refer to ebay auctions in our posts. Think about it and let me know how you want to proceed. We can always cut and paste stuff from ebay into a Yahoo discussion, I think. Any help here would be appreciated. B-)

I kinda like yahoo site as the photos are larger than what ebay has plus more memory space. Plus quicker and easier to upload my full size pics than burden you guys with megs and megs worth of photos. So if you wanna see my pics, peple will have to look on the yahoo site. Pete, there is a way to make the group an approval system to join. Not sur how as I came across groups that you just can't join instantly, you have to leave a message with why you should be let in or info about yourself,etc.. Hopefuly the group doesn't turn into a 200 member monster.

It's private now. I still can't seem to get my photos to load up. Rats! I always seem to have a problem with any new system. Computer ignorant. That's me. B-)

I found another use for the Yahoo site: uploading files eBay does not support like: http://ca.groups.yahoo.com/group/Modelrrisfun/files/Taz-s%20Train%20Files/ Remember Google SketchUp? This is a drawing of a crazy Byzantine gas station that existed in Cumberland Maryland in the early 1900's it was an Amoco in a photo of it in the 1936 flood. If you use the View-Animation-Play menu selections it will take you on a little fly through of the drawing... Have fun, Charles PS, I checked all your photos Dave, thanks for posting...

Well Charles, I used the link and tried to open your demo, but my computer doesn't recognoze the .skp file, so I can't play it. When it comes to computers, I'm still on a typewriter I guess. I don't have all the whistles, bells and trains....oops, I do have the trains. As far as I'm concerned the Yahoo site is a waste and I am the one who opened it. You guys are so far ahead of me in this cyber world. B-)

I tried to open it and I could not either. May be there is a plugin at Yahoo that you have to download to play these files. Just a guess. Chuck

OOPS, I did not say anything about it being a SketchUp drawing, sorry! Pete, Do you still have Google SketchUp installed (do I remember you recently replaced your computer with no small pain)? This is the link to SketchUp, the current version is 7 (the posted file is still ver 6, but StetchUp converts it with just a small complaint). http://sketchup.google.com/ Chuck, it is not a plug-in, but a whole little 3D drawing package from Google. You can even upload drawings (like of your house?) to Google Earth. There is a free version (I use that one) and a pay for version with additional stuff. It is geared toward encouraging 3D drawings, and compared to some other drafting packages I have used the 3D stuff is tons easier. It does take some work to learn how it wants to be used, but if you need some 3D stuff, it can be really nice. But just to look at the drawing it is not so hard to do. Thanks Charles, but being an old retired architect, I did not like the sketchup program, so I dumped it. I prefer my professional FastCad for drawing. I'm set in my ways you see and my wife would add quite stubborn too. SmileyCentral.com

Pete, The TurboCAD 15 I have will read SketchUp files, I can probably save it as a file you can use if you need a break from the CRS... Charles PS, while looking around StetchUp I discovered it will save the "animation" to an AVI movie...
