I just received and built an N Scale DPM Gold Jerry Riggs service station. It was a new shrink wrapped kit and after opening it found that many of the white metal items were missing! DPM says they will replace them but I questioned their quality control as things that were included like a tractor but no tires to put on it or a tow truck but no boom or storage tanks but no gauges and pipes with valves etc. you get the picture. I have also found this true with other kits from Life Like and Bachmann. Have other people found this to be a regular occurance? Normally when I take things apart I can put them back together with a few things left over, I might add. (I think the Phantom Kitmaster comes by and throws extra parts into the box when I am not looking). Lately though I have been missing parts in kits with the culmination of this DPM kit. They advertise that it is the details that make the model but then they left out almost 3/4 of the details! Gene

Marc, I use a toothpick tip to put a small drop of glue on those sign boards and the tweezers to place them. Chuck, Look at Dave's pictures to see how the door is recessed. Dave is right about eyeballing it. Also notice how the window glass is applied to the rear. Dave, A picture is worth.....thanks. B-)

I applied automotive window tint film to the lower front windows. I had the film for a year (for doing car model kits) and thought of it when I started my plastic pellet factory. dave

Just posted a picture of how the windows go together for Wicked Wanda's house of pleasure..... Notice how that skinny little piece gives the door depth and that is real lace trim from Michael's cut to make lace curtains. Clear acetate for the glass as usual. The windows will go together the same way. B-)

Went to my LHS to find paint for my kits. They had every color you can think of in both Acrylic and Enamel. No paint sets. What is a good price for 1/4oz bottles of testers paints? They want $2.39 a bottle. That seems high to me. Did the internet search and found a lot of sets, but most were aircraft and military. Also found a lot of Acrylic paints in tubes. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Chuck 🙂

Come on Marc, be serious. Chuck, Go to one of the internet train stores and check the prices. I'm afraid that acrylics do go for about that much. Acrylics in tubes are fine if you want to mix them yourself with water to get the right consistency. And stay away from the enamels as they tend to be glossy. I've said it before and I'll say it again, look in the craft section for "craft acrylic paints" usually called "creamed paints". They are flat, non toxic and come in tons of colors. That's all I use any more and the price it right....cheap because the bottle is much bigger. My local hardware store, Home Depot and Walmart all carry the craft paints. You just know who is the cheapest don't you. The colors you have seen on the models I have posted are all craft paints. They clean up with water and have no smell or toxins. B-)

Chuck, I'm sorry for being a wise-guy! If you have a well stocked LHS they will have a (small) shelf that has "RailRoad Colors" too. I recently visited mine and found colors like PRR Tuscan Red and UP Yellow, just to name a few. If you don't see them....ask! Marc

Just point me in the right direction and I think I can make it home Marc. Hic up. Thanks Pete, have been to Both Supper K & W Marts. Wall Mart here had a very poor selection and K Mart had none. There is a store here called Michal's which is a craft store. Will check them out but don't like going there because their prices are inflated, it is the only store of its kind in town. Will check out Home Depot and Lowes. Marc my LHS does not have that train color set. They said if I wanted it they could order it for me. Chuck 🙂

Chuck, If these are really new bottles of paint, it is a deal. This is the type of paint I use, but not the same brand. Up here I pay $2 per bottle, so this is a bargain. B-)

Just got back from Michael's and forget it. Like I thought their prices are high. 2 oz bottle $4.49, 1/4 oz $2.50. They had some nice 1/4 oz sets but they cost just as much as that set on ebay. Going to buy that set off ebay. Thanks again for all the advice. Chuck 🙂

The paints arrived today. I think I have enough paint to paint my apartment. Sixty different colors. As soon as I finish one I will post a photo for comments and suggestions. Buy the way these kits come with no base. What do you use for a base? Do you mount them directly on the layout? Chuck 🙂

Yes and no, Chuck. Depends what you are using for roads or if you have sidewalks. I suggest you get and read the Woodland Scenic manual about making roads and walks with their system. It will give you a number of ideas even if you don't do it that way. B-)
