For a few years since I've been using eBay on my different Adnroid phones I have noticed this same issue that can easily be fied on the developer's end of the app.
Currently through my tests the only web links that open with the eBay app are links that begin with 'pages' in the URL, so " pages.ebay.com " will open with the eBay app.
But standard eBay links that friends may send to me through WhatsApp are not being associated with the installed eBay app.
This is a Browser Intent issue that requires fixing (just google 'android browser intent').
So these below types of eBay links are not opening with the Android app:

http://www.ebay.co.uk
http://www.ebay.fr
http://m.ebay.com
Only this works:
http://pages.ebay.com
