eBay authentication via the app fails.

I want 2FA but not with SMS prompts. I wanted an authenticator app like Authy. The eBay app does this (supposedly but SPOLIER not really). There is no option for a 3rd part authentication app. I opted (not by choice) to do my authentication via the eBay app.  I tried it twice and failed to establish the 2FA. Both times I was logged in from a laptop or desktop on the second time.

The first time I got all the way to hearing a jingle on my phone and looked for a prompt to respond but nothing. No dialog box to the push notification and no evidence beside the jingle of there being a prompt.  

My second attempt didn't get that far. I selected the app option rather than the SMS option and received a pop-up of instructions, download the app, install it etc and pressed "continue" only to be taken back to the page before of choosing between SMS and the app and selecting the app again in an endless cycle.  

I gave up. The eBay app is buggy in respect of choosing it as an authenticator and "chose", quote unquote" the SMS option. What does eBay not allow 3rd party authentication apps. My phone has no problem using 3rd party authenticators. Either that or fix their software.

I gave the app a punishing review being sorely disappointed and uninstalled the app. I only use eBay from my laptop or desktop, not the phone.

Bump this.  I can use Authy for almost everything to do with banking, investments and online financial stuff. . . . All except eBay.

p.s.  I also do not want yet another app just to sign on.  Maintaining 25 or so "apps" with time-consuming updates almost every time they are a called is a pain.  I see nothing any more secure using all these apps as compared to an UpToDate browser working with an industry standard authenticator app like Authy.

Just an update, eBay now supports the use of 3rd party authenticators, like Authy.

Like I said, I was updating the thread so that anybody else, like myself, who comes across it, has a solution. That would make zero sense for me to start a brand new thread saying "Ebay supports Authy now." Thank you.
