Why is eBay photo search function so bad?

It seems that more often than not when I try to identify and item by taking a photo from within the app, it posts results that aren't even close.  I snap a picture of a dish and it responds with images of neckties.  A roundish purse comes back as wheels.  Now I use Google to identify the item by maker, then have to type in the result to eBay to research prices.

Yeah, I use eBay's photo search every couple of weeks and I find the results to be wildly inaccurate, often not even identifying the correct type of object. I think results vary depending what type of item you're searching.

It's been more effective to do an image search on Google with a parameter set to show results from eBay.com 😕

I encourage you to use the shake function to report problems like this. While the app is open, shake your phone, then tap the 'send  feedback' link.

That said, make sure your photos are clear and have a clean background for the best shot at identifying the object.
