Tax collection on tax exempt gold and precious metals purchases.

I’ve recently been faced with a check out problem when purchasing gold coin on eBay. In California ( my residence) the sales tax is exempt on purchase over $1500.00. However when I went to check out to pay the invoice tax of $148.00 Was included and not able to be adjusted.

i reached out to the customer service department at eBay on three occasions to get the issue resolved but with no answers or response from them.
because or the fluctuation of gold prices my seller was unable to wait indefinitely for eBay to resolve this error in billing. I was forced to pay the amount including tax to secure my purchase. eBay now has ‘stolen’ 148.00 US dollars from me with no way to be made whole. Is anyone else having this issue or any suggestions on how to get refund from Ebays stupid tax collection at check out.

If others have had similar issues perhaps a lawyer would consider a class action suit to get their attention because I as a single user cannot.

Yes, I bought $3000+ in Precious metal coins, but ebay is improperly charging me sales tax. California law is no sales tax over $2000 for gold/silver coins of bullion, how can I get ebay to not charge me that incorrect sales tax?  I would sign on the class action, or maybe just a lawyer could write a strongly worded letter explaining their improper behavior.

Thanks
