When I enter an item to search it will say there isn't anything. Now if I use my laptop it works! The app has been playing up for two days now

Did this start after searching within a specific seller's items? I believe there is a bug that can cause searches following a seller-specific search to default to continue searching just that seller's items even after the search field has been cleared. If so there will likely be a "seller:username" term in the search field after the new search is run.
Can you clear the search field and load a previous (non seller-specific) search or a saved search? If that works and gets results, then try to enter a new search.

No this does this when u search for anything. It doesn't have a users name I haven't clicked on anything to warrent a users name to be present I simply open the app and go to search and type what I'm looking for and it will say there are no items so I have to use a laptop. The app has started doing this since Saturday/Sunday last week

That is very odd. And you have no filters selected?
Have you tried clearing your data and your cache (under your device's Settings: Apps: eBay: Storage)? Then start the app, sign back in and try again.
If that does not help, the only other thing I can suggest is to uninstall the app, restart the phone, and then install it again.
