I have a Samsung phone and all of a sudden the eBay app stopped working
I was using the app then switched to another app, then switched back and now I have the same issue, I'll paraphrase the message I get below.
"We're sorry this version of the app is no longer supported... Please update."
I get this every time I open eBay on my Samsung, I don't understand how it can be working one minute and then not the next, nothing has changed I have Android OS 9, I have uninstalled, re-installed, switched my phones on an off and a combination of the three. I have also updated google play services, as has also been advised.
All the Reponses seem to be, "Old phone, old OS, so get a new phone." which is rather dismissive.
Is this not a bug, it seems very strange, and the web version doesn't send message notifications, for sales, bids, messages and so on, so its not really a viable alternative.
If this is not a bug, it's going to be a huge inconvenience for huge number of app users, is this being looked into, or is it simply a matter of a huge number of the user base have now been locked out.
Please help, thanks.

There may be a larger issue at play as the forum has been flooded over the past hour or so with similar reports.
In the meantime, you should be able to access eBay through a web browser on your device.

According to a post on the UK community boards, the latest version of the eBay app requires Android 10 or later.
If you cannot upgrade your operating system or find an older version of the app that works with your current operating system, you should still be able to use a browser to go to ebay.co.uk instead.
If eBay browser links are opening in the app automatically, you can disable that by going to your device Settings: Apps: eBay: Open by default: Opens supported links and choosing "Don't open in the app".

Do you know when this change occurred?
As I said, I was using the app on Android 9 a couple of hours ago, it was working fine.

The post I linked to appeared this morning, my time.
There have been a flood of UK users posting on the US community boards this evening since then.
I am not sure if US users will have the same problem when they try to use the eBay app tomorrow morning, or if this is a UK-specific issue -- possibly due to the unique 2-factor requirement in the UK.

Thank you for clarifying, hopefully there is a solution to this or a rollback, as it's its clear that many many users are affected by this.
The prospect of having to spend a pretty large amount of money to upgrade your phone to use ebay isn't going to sit well with a lot of people.

You are welcome. I do not know if I would hold my breath waiting for eBay to provide a new version of the app that was compatible with older operating systems. Perhaps someone will find an older version of the app that still works for a little while.
Mobile browsers are still free.

This happened in the early hours of this morning, 3 Feb 2025.
I contacted ebay and was in chat with one of their support staff.
It is a result of ebay adding new features for a better user experience that will not run on Android 9, which is what my mobile phone is running. Not a great experience now for me and 1000s of others in the same situation.
They raised a complaint on my behalf but I am not holding my breath on this being resolved.
Basically if you have Android 9 and like me cannot update OS, forget it.
On a way it's a blessing in disguise, I do spend a lot if time browsing that often results in purchases so not going to be my loss.
There is of course the Web app via a browser but it's not so nice to use so I'll be on there less.
Now what to do with the extra time...
