Filter by size doesn’t work half the time

There’s no rhyme or reason to whether or not I will be able to filter by size when searching for an item. For instance I was searching ‘vintage “blank” crewneck’ (which is another issue: I shouldn’t have to put a keyword like blank in quotations to get results with that term, does the same thing with many terms) and I had the option to filter by size, but I wanted to narrow it down by adding the term sweatshirt: ‘vintage “blank” crewneck sweatshirt’ and suddenly I can no longer filter by size! It’s maddening and makes the whole system useless half the time.

Also, what is with the super small limits on amount of items you can  place in your watchlist/cart/save for later? Like do they not want us to shop? Poshmark has unlimited item saves so I know it’s possible and I’ve made complaints about it numerous times to no avail. Now with the size filters not working I’m about ready to leave.

Another thing I just noticed is the same exact terms will give me size filtering until I put the term in quotations that the search function doesn’t want to pick up, in this case the word “blank”. Extremely frustrating. It’s like I can either search for sweatshirts by size or blank sweatshirts but not both.

What filters are available depend on the category you are searching. To see size filters, typically you must narrow the category to a specific subcategory for a particular type of clothing. There is no generic size filter that works universally in all categories.

Using a keyword in quotes defeats the automatic category navigation and typically winds up providing results in "All categories". If you are using quotes or exclusions, you must manually choose your category.

What casual buyer would know all this?

I am far from casual and have been an avid buyer for more than two decades, but this was new information for me.

A casual buyer would probably not use quoted keywords, and would not have to know about that.

eBay used to have Help pages that explained how search works, and how the "smart" search features worked. But the Help pages were redesigned years ago and the relevant information was removed.

Yeah, I’m aware of that, it gives the option to pick a size category and then you select said category and….no option to choose sizes. Even if you select and then go back into the filters. It’s a dead end.

Anyways, after speaking with a representative from ebay, they’ve confirmed it’s an error that’s repeated both in the app and on the webpage, and they’ve reported it to the app department.

Anyone who knows how a search function works would use quotes terms. I don’t know what a casual buyer is or isn’t, but I have been using eBay on and off for close to two decades. The filtering used to work better than it does now. You used to be able to filter by size on every search, even ones where there was no size, you just wouldn’t be able to select anything, but the Size filter was still there. Wish they’d just go back to that.

Quotes definitely break the filter function but this is a problem with regular queries as well. Like I said in the title, it’s half the time or more. Even an easy one like ‘mens sweatpants’ with no quotations just two words, one of which is a department and the other a clear clothing item, still won’t give me the option to filter by size.

The option to filter by size appears if you narrow the category down from "all categories" to something in one of the clothing categories. Many filters are category-specific.

That is because different filter options mean different things depending on the category you are searching.
