For some reason the app will not accept my new email address.
i no longer have the old address.

try this way
1st you have to log out from your default email app provide by the mobile app IOS.
2nd then install email app from app store on your mobile.
3rd now enter your new email address and login.
I thinks now its work properly. ; )
