There is a setting on the Communication Preferences page.
Use a desktop browser to go here:
If you make any changes, be sure to use the "Save" button in that section.
I do not know if the settings work correctly, though. At one point I was receiving html email on an account that could not decipher html, and I was unable to get it to provide text only. But I have not changed those settings lately, so perhaps it works better now.
