Advanced Search???? (probably a rehash for most, but I just downloaded the app)

It appears the app doesn't allow for advanced search.  I have the dumbest phone in creation, so I generally use the real website from my tablet or doorstop PC.  Ebay offered that $2 coupon to try shopping from the app, so for two bucks I gave it a shot.

In a word, yuck.  There's too much of the old command line, green screen, computer user in me still I guess. The worst misfeature is there seems to be no way to access Advanced search.  Or am I missing it?

@evelyb30

The eBay app does things a little differently than the desktop site, but many of the same advanced search features can still be used, though they are accessed differently. Try a basic search using your chosen keywords, and then look at the Filter and Sort menus for some options, and scroll down. To search for a specific seller type seller:sellername in the search box.

One handy workaround: if you save a search on your desktop, you should be able to access that saved search from your app. Some of the more advanced features on the desktop site are not fully implemented on the app, though. If you make extensive use of the filters on the left side of the search results page of the desktop browser, you should be aware that if you choose multiple filter choices for something like "Item condition", the app can only handle one at a time, so you may not be seeing the same items in that search in the app compared to a desktop.

If the app is too limited for you, it is still possible to use the desktop site on a mobile browser, typically by going to ebay.com and tapping the three dot menu and selecting "request desktop site" for that browser tab.

If there is a particular advanced search feature you cannot find, mention it in a follow up.

Can't say I've ever tried using the seller:sellername search.  It's worth a shot. It's what I used to look at my own closed/sold listings when I'm logged into my buying account. Not worth much this time of year, of course.

That said, the app interface... I repeat, yuck.(LOL)

Can you let us know what advanced search options you are using on the site that you would like to see in the app? If you have more specifics on what you do not like about the interface let us know too.

I expect to be able to use ALL search functions, all on screen, just the way they are on the real PC interface.  No hunting around.  A buyer can't buy what they can't find, and they can't use a tool they can't find either.

The app also needs to stop hiding the descriptions; sellers spend time writing them for a reason.  Putting info there doesn't help if the buyers can't see it and has to depend on some all but invisible link on the page to find it.  Buyers back off because they can't find required information on the main page, or worse buy anyway.  Then the buyer gets upset because they bought an item expecting perfection or a larger size, but didn't read the description. That situation does no one any good.   I've been on the site since 2004, so if I'm having trouble what do you think will happen to some poor new user, besides a quick exit?

Losing Best Match would be helpful across all platforms, or at least allowing users to select their preferred method and lock it in.  Like most people who really use Ebay I call "Best Match" Worst Match and for cause.  The items the algorithm thinks are a match are often so far off as to be laughable.   Again, we can't buy what we can't find.

I could go on for a few pages, but that ought to be enough for a while.

Can you please let us know a specific search feature you are missing in the apps.

Thanks

Can I officially just roll my eyes now?    No wonder Ebay is losing customers.  The reps can't even read.

ADVANCED SEARCH without having the search for it.  DESCRIPTIONS on the item page with NO ADDITIONAL clicking necessary.   Get rid of Best Match across all platforms.   It's not that anything's missing, it's that it's impossible to find when you need it.

If that's not clear enough, I can't help you.  Sorry. Get someone to read this whose first language is English.
