Yes it was very easy to remove, just raised up the lip, kinda like replacing rhinestones, LOL, not sure yet, just the gold will scrap out at around 575, so may scrap, or put the stone back in, not sure yet, but it is a pretty blue in person.

You did good pika! I looked up this opal and does look like that's what it is. Quite rare and from Australia and costly too.

@kdk1690. scrap the gold and sell the stone, it's truly lovely. Thanks for an interesting topic!

I agree with the idea that it may be Native made. It looks like lapis and agate to me, but there's no pyrite visible and that does lower the chance I'm right. 

 

I WOULD NOT scrap any part of it until I had I.D'd the artist. The value of it will be in the whole piece, not the solo stone.
