Hi There - Some Helpful Links

Let me be the first to write on this board and welcome those that have come here looking for information about a piece that they may have or a general question about jewelry.  Since this is a new board, please be patient as it may take some of the people in the know about jewelry a bit to find this place.  In the mean time here are some great links to some information that you may find useful in your quest about your piece.  I deal mostly with costume jewelry, but there are some people around that know about fine jewelry as well.

Some maker's marks you may be looking for can be found here: https://www.illusionjewels.com/research/costumejewelrymarks.html

Great information can be found here about all aspects of jewelry:

http://www.morninggloryantiques.com/

And here is a site that may help you identify that hang tag on your piece:

http://imageevent.com/flippingtreasures/identifieddangles;jsessionid=ifxg9xfzq2.cat_s

BUT a word of warning ... the more you find out about your pieces the more likely it is that you will become addicted, like the rest of us.

Again, Welcome.

Hi There - Some Helpful Links

I would love to see a list of people that we could contact for authentication of both, costume and fine jewelry.  for example, who can I send a Givenchy, or a KJL piece for authentication?  What about fine jewelry...diamonds, gems, etc.?

@auntiekittys

Hi Kitty, I know of no list of people but KJL pieces are pretty straightforward and he did do a line for Avon so that would be on his marks as well.

    He really isn't a counterfeit type of designer,  they go after the big guns!

@lacemaker3

It is indeed lace. I've used @flipping_treasures links several times, she's a gem.

I have some new ones that I need to add, I'll see if I can do that this weekend.

Hi There - Some Helpful Links

With all due respect, I have to kindly disagree.  I've seen a lot of questionable KJLs and some of his stuff goes for thousands of dollars.  I think that the counterfeiters go after anybody that's collectable.

Kenneth can't be all bad, we went to same college! I wouldn't sell him short as he was the master at copying designs himself. He made it possible for the middle class to wear beautifully designed pieces for a fraction of the real ones. I have one of his beautiful brooches myself and it's exquisite.

Here's some info in case someone really wants to know about one of the greats!

Hi There - Some Helpful Links

I just found a site that will authenticate jewelry, as well as other designer items and clothing.  It is: https://authenticatefirst.com  They have jew a few, jewelry designers such as Givenchy, Dior, Haskell, but alas...no KJL  :D.  The charges for their services varies, depending on the designer.  Everything that I looked up was around $20-25 for authentication.  If you want a certificate, then it is more.  I have not tried them yet, but I might do so with a nice Givenchy necklace that I have.  I'll let you all know what I find out.

Nice, please do let us know. What pieces of KJL do you have, do you want to start a post and pictures of it? I have a number of his things.

Hi There - Some Helpful Links

Sure!  There are so many pieces of his stuff out there.  Lots to look at!  I'm really busy right now helping my son sell some stuff, but I'll put a few things now, and more later.

Hi There - Some Helpful Links

I just found another authentication service: https://realauthentication.com  It doesn't have as many jewelry designers listed and it is a few dollars more.  I may check them out too.  (I have no idea about the level of knowledge that these people have.)

Hi There - Some Helpful Links

I probably should have started a new thread for the KJL stuff...sorry.

On topic...Does anyone have a reputable, jewelry repair person, costume, or fine?  I'd like to find someone that makes small repairs such as reattaching earring posts, repairing chipped gold plating, resetting stones, etc.  Transacting online would be ideal.

I sent in a Weiss set 7 months ago to Mr. Stones, but have yet to get it back.  They do say that it can take up to a year, so I'm not worried yet.  I think that his reputation is good.

Any suggestions?
