Hi guys, this is going to sound like a totally crazy question, but bare with me… I sold a woven sterling necklace that I cleaned before I photographed. I put it in a baggie and apparently it wasn’t all the way dry and it ugly tarnished (yuck brown) so I cleaned it once again, dried it well, wrapped it in paper towel and put it in a baggie, not sealed. Well it tarnished over night again. And it needs to be shipped today. My mail doesn’t run until late this afternoon, so I have time. Normally I would put it in the sun and allow nature to dry it for me. But it is cool and dreary here today. So, has anyone ever warmed jewelry in an oven to dry it? I don’t think it will damage it, it is not particularly fragile, but I don’t know. Any experience with this? I guess I am gonna try it out, sure wish I had a convection oven, that would be even better, lol.

try using a hair dryer

I meant to add that my hair dryer bit the dust and I haven’t replaced it yet (I don’t use one very often anyways). So it wasn’t an option. 🙂

Ok , well for anyone wondering, I did it (175°, 15 min) and it did fine, it was dry and good to go. Not something I do normally but desperate times, lol.

Keep it out of that baggie, don't you have some anti tarnish strips around, look in your old jewelry boxes. Do not put it in the oven to bake. If you don't get this cleaned up your looking at a SNAD. Print off shipping label for tomorrow and go to the store and get some those anti tarnish straps, clean up this necklace with a mild silver cleaner and with a soft cloth buff it dry. Pack it in tissue with those strips and mail it out tomorrow morning. Best of luck to you, Silver

I ship everything I sell in a baggie, and never have I gotten a SNAD for tarnish. I have already oven dried it. I am amazed at how many people think jewelry is super fragile. I got a literal ton of jewelry and yes, there were broken pieces, but many pieces were just fine in the 100 lb balls they came with. Do I want my fine jewelry treated that way? No. But is not going to break from heat, especially low heat.
And I am curious as to what stores sell anti tarnish strips? I don’t think I have any around me that do. I can order some from Amazon, but it sure isn’t gonna be here tomorrow. I will take my chances. It isn’t a high dollar item.

This can and will change the temper of such. Risky to do> But as said desperate times...LOL
If you have to do such: set it for the lowest and raise to heat; (Preheat). then lay item in with door cracked and oven off.

Isn't there any on the bay for sale? Order them for next time, customers will appreciate the extra touch. I've seen them at Wal-Mart and some jewelry stores will give you a few to get you by.
Well glad everything worked out for you, sincerely Silver.
