Native American or Mexican?

What do you think? I bought them. There is no mark anywhere on them, not even a mark for sterling. I'm leaning toward Native American work but would like your input. I haven't tested the metal yet. They look like artisanal work to me, and pretty old.

Is there such a thing as 540 silver?

I have a pair of earrings with some sort of gemstone, probably serpentine, and the very nicely done bezel settings are stamped 540. Never saw that before, and wondered if it was a silver mark or maybe a trade marking.
