I sold a Disney watch 10 days ago for not much but it had been listed for awhile. So happy it sold. The buyer messaged me that she needed some time to pay. I said OK but how long of time did she need. She did not respond back. It has been 10 days. I do have the unpaid set up for 8 days but I turned it off on her. So now thinking maybe she changed her mind or maybe forgot??? So thinking I will send her an invoice but how much longer should I give her to pay? I want to be nice yet would like to know what is happening. Just need some advice - help!

I'd send another polite message and if no response open an unpaid item case. I've just had one of these who said she needed more time to pay which was fine, didn't pay, then sent me an echeque that didn't clear which all took weeks. Such a waste of time but glad I didn't ship the item when I got the 'cheque'.

I agree. 1 more polite message...then file a UPI if no response.

10 days is too long. 1 week seems long enough. I third ....the one more polite message, give them a day to respond, if you hear nothing back, file an Unpaid Item Case

Yes, send either an invoice or a message. Personally I would give her a couple days to respond, but I generally give 2 weeks before I start contacting people for payment. I only wait so long in case they are wanting to bid on more of my items, I like to encourage that as much as possible. Just don't let it go too long or you won't get your final value fee back.
It is kind of amazing how many people on ebay end up not paying for items. I have my settings so anyone with over 5 unpaid items in the last month will be blocked from bidding, and I get quite a few blocked on my items for that reason.

When I commit to buy something on Ebay I treat like a purchase made in a bricks & mortar store, paying then and there. If (and when) I was selling on Ebay I'd set the payment grace period at 5 days. My feeling is, if they're buying something they should be prepared to pay for it right quick. Otherwise they're just putting it on layway with no money holding it. Does any shopping venue have layaway anymore?

ebay has brainwashed its sellers into feeling guilty or fearful of losing a sale for expecting immediate payment. Instead, buyers are given the option to pay at their own convenience. This creates wasted time and hassle for ebay and sellers. I can't think of any other marketplace on the web that allows you to purchase something, tie up the seller's inventory, and take your sweet time paying. That's what shopping carts are for. If someone purchases something they should pay for it immediately. If they want to purchase something 3 days or a week later they should expect to pay additional shipping or use the shopping cart and take their chances the item might be sold in the meantime.
If I haven't received payment within 3 days I send an invoice. If it goes a day beyond that, I file an unpaid bidder report. On more expensive items or items I feel might be scammed I check the immediate payment required box. Starting now and through the holidays I will require immediate payment on all BIN's. Who has the time to watch and wait for a buyer to pay for their purchased item? It only gives them more time to change their minds about their purchase while your item is off the market.

My TOS says seven days, a leftover from the old days of being able to mail a check or MO. I've left it, because most people pay right away or are looking for a combined invoice. I'd file a NPB alert now.

I just had a similar situation. Person won the item and didn't pay. I sent one invoice then the 2nd about 3 days later. After 8 days went by, I sent a very polite message. To my utter surprise, she then paid.
I was very hesitant to file an unpaid item case because she had 100% positive feedback. But I agree with you, why shouldn't a person pay right away? I know that I do.
Hope it goes well for you!

I guess this buyer has done this before. Wish I seen her feedback earlier. She has the latest "Nonpaying bidder". So last night sent an invoice and surprise she is in Australia. Her extra shipping is almost the double on the item she bought. So this morning opened an NPB and for it to end in 2 days. I've waited long enough. No too often do I get a non payer.

I send an invoice immediatly so they don't have the excuse that they didn't get one. It states payment is expected within 2 days. If I don't hear from them in that time I will send a polite message asking if there is a problem or if they need an extension. If I don't hear back from them within 24 hours then I file the UPI.
I know to some people this sounds hard hearted but I got tired of people trying to delay until they were ready to pay then complaining about every little thing.
I like your policy. There is no layway policy on other big internet selling venues, why should there be one on Ebay?
I'd rather not sell something than spend time and effort waiting on some flake?

Rubiano - thanks for the comment. I agree - I have my non payment set up so usually I don't have to wait for payment. I do find some of the buyers that have a high star rating wait till the NP kicks in then pays. Think is just keeping control of their cash flow. This buyer that I'm dealing with just makes bids and then ask for an extension and does not end up paying. I'll just relist the watch next week. Life goes on!

If I was listing I'd state that payment must be made within 3 days. Which includes weekend days, or the item gets relisted. And then state No layaway holds.
A buyer's cash flow would not be my problem.
Might sound harsh but I don't see why sellers should have to bend over backwards to accommodate flaky bidders.
