Stolen Purses/Wallets being fenced on eBay

I hope everyone is aware of the recent mob smash-and-grabs being committed in high-end retail stores. Stores include Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Hermes, Nordstrom. Mobs of 50 or more masked individuals hit the store at one time. They literally clear the shelves. Really.

That’s horrible, and scary. (“They’re insured. Big deal!”  No. That misses the point.)

My concern is that some of these people, the next day or so, open a “new” eBay account, and sell the wallets/purses/etc. There’s a seller on eBay, new, only TWO FEEDBACKS, who has sold about a dozen men’s Louis Vuitton wallets. “Quantity sold:12 remaining 3”

I tried once, unsuccessfully, to sell my mom’s old Burberry hat from the 70s. Oh boy. eBay immediately contacted me. Fraud. Possible rip-off item. They insisted I show a receipt. Well, who has 40 year old receipts? It had all the labels. It was genuine. Alas, NO. eBay wouldn’t let me sell it.

So…that MUST mean that the seller I’m mentioning, new to eBay, two feedbacks, must’ve shown receipts for all FIFTEEN WALLETS! Right, eBay? And even though I’ve been selling for years, with NO NEGATIVE FEEDBACK, I am limited to $1,500 a month! So how is this guy selling 15 wallets, at $400 each, for a total of SIX THOUSAND DOLLARS IN SALES IN ONE WEEK, getting away with it!?

Come on, eBay. Are that guy’s fees THAT important to you that you’re overlooking all the rules, ethics, proof, receipts for the people who are, in actuality, FENCING STOLEN GOODS?

Shame on you, eBay. Maybe you’re GUILTY of being an accessory to GRAND LARCENY. And you know EXACTLY what’s going on.

Sometimes you guys make me nauseous.

Thoughts? Response? Hmm, eBay?

@dubiousstuff

If they are trying to sell them under a new account, they might sell them, but it'll be awhile before they see any money, because their funds will be held.

If they are selling that many, their funds might get froze until they provide proof they actually bought the items.

Have a great day.

And they 'might' not= $$$$$$ Fees!  Ebay might be drooling!

Interesting, I didn't think of that when I saw those smash 'n grabs in the news.  Makes a ton of sense.

Although I have little doubt that a lot of the loot from smash and grabs ends up on ebay, this time of year also sees a flurry of fakes from new sellers with multiples of the same items at "too good to be true" prices.

So between stolen goods and fakes, buyers have to be very careful.

Of course, I agree. You have to use common sense, too.
But, in theory (not in practice), eBay is supposed to remove “fake’ items at “too good to be true” prices. Their rules clearly state that selling FAKE designer items (such as Louis Vuitton $1500 wallets for $400, and selling 15 of the same item, eBay is supposed to CATCH THOSE SCUMBAGS WHO ARE RIPPING PEOPLE OFF.

It just occurred to me: what if they’re using PayPal (or others) instead of eBay?

The problem isn’t wether or not their money is held or not. The problem is that he shouldn’t be allowed to sell them in the first place. eBay should automatically flag any seller selling any brands that were part of these smash and grabs. And believe me, there were many instances. Happened in LA, happened in San Francisco. And it happened MAJORLY in Chicago. The estimated value was somewhere about $250,000 in my city alone. For ONE shoplifting mob, in one night.

Apparently, the powers that be here don’t read the news.

LOOTERS should be shot on sight and their bodies put on display until the buzzards pick them clean.

Sometimes the sellers ship them by Media Mail or otherwise in violation of USPS regulations.

And strapless handbags with little carry handles and nothing else for sale at high end stores?

If the stores themselves are being smashed and grabbed, and you're walking around town with a high end purse, at a minimum you need a strap over your opposite shoulder, or, say, a chain on a man's wallet.

Concealed carry, too, but that's another matter.
