I'm a long time eBayer (since 1999) and am both a buyer and a seller. I recently purchased a bag that falls under the Authencity Guarantee program. The bag has been moving in circles for three weeks now and hasn't even been delivered for authentication in Las Vegas. Frankly I'm concerned with how the bag will arrive to me since it seems to be on a tour of the Southern United States. I know, of course that this is no fault of the seller. As someone who is well informed in the purchase of luxury goods, I feel eBay should allow buyers the option of "opting out" of its Authentication Guarantee. I'm hoping for the best but wouldn't be surprised if I receive an expensive deflated bag at this point.

I'm so sorry you are going through this. Of course you'll be protected but when you purchase and item, it's the ITEM you want and NOT a refund.
I hope if it's necessary to file INR, the seller doesn't get dinged.
This program seems to have more glitches than smooth transactions!

I totally agree with you. I have no faith in their service or authenticators. Maybe you would be better off with a reputable authentication service? Are you forced to use their service?

Here's the thing, I know eBay put this plan in place to try and make themselves more competitive with sites like Fashionphile and Rebag, etc. With additional shipping steps involved the probability for item loss and damage increases, not to mention very prolonged shipping times. I've had bags from Japan arrive to me in two days. This process as it stands currently leaves me not wanting to purchase again if an item requires these extra steps.

Yes! And with all the reputable authentication sites out there a faster solution would have been for eBay to partner with one of those that can provide verification visually. Send the listing, earn a Verified Authentic badge on your item.

That would make a lot of sense. Let's hope that happens sometime soon.

The only thing I'll say is that there are NOT that many reputable services. Many of them SUCK and make a LOT of errors.
