Hello,
I was wondering if one of the experts could please take a look at this Vintage Coach bag for authenticity? It looks okay to me, but I have a buyer that is claiming that it’s fake.
Thank you in advance for your expertise.

The bag looks like its from the Lightweight line introduced by Coach toward the end of the 1980s, the leather is SUPPOSED to be thinner and the metal hardware is lighter and often coated rather than solid brass. That particular bag is genuine, was actually made in the early 1990s and is either a Small or Medium Bucket Bag and part of the Lightweight line.
Please tell your buyer that Coach didnt start putting style numbers in their serial numbers until 1994. Wherever shes getting her "information" on Coaches, shes wasting her time and/or just plain being lied to.
Heres a page from Coachs 1987 Holiday catalog that goes into detail about the new Lightweight line, clicking on the photo should enlarge it a bit.

Its genuine and was made in the early 1990s. Without measurements, we cant identify the style.
Why did your buyer think it was fake?

Feel free to refer the buyer here if she wants more information or reassurance..

Thank you for your response. The buyer said that the bag was flimsy and that there was no style number. I told her that it was pre style number era and during that time, Coach started making lighter weight bags.
