Hello,
I was wondering if anyone can tell me if this Gucci is real or not? My gut tells me that it's a fake, but would like an opinion before I discard the bag.

And my gut is saying it’s OK but I’ve been wrong on vintage Gucci before. I think it’s got classic sticky lining which deteriorates but can be gently worked and brushed off. It’ll be time consuming but can be done. If you search “Gucci Peeling” or “Gucci Sticky Lining” you should find articles walking you through the process.
I don’t know what that punch on the tag means but I’d guess that it was either an outlet or employee purchase. Wait for others to confirm authenticity or you can use a professional service.

I personally have never seen a leather zipper pull similar to the one on your bag on my vintage or modern Gucci pieces, but I just did a search and apparently leather pull tags are sometimes stamped with Gucci.
If it were me, I would have it professionally authenticated. I think it would be worth the $7.50. You could also try the purse forum.

I'm sorry, but it looks fake to me. The quality of materials (pleather, not leather) alone speaks volumes.

Hello everyone, it is me dvgvintage (I know, I know I am outing myself LOL), and I rarely use my original name now because I am a buyer only.
The handbag is authentic, however, the interior is in poor condition which may have not been stored properly 😞 The hole punch in the interior label w/serial number is one that Gucci used when items were sold at their outlet stores. It was done so that returns would not be made at their regular stores. The exterior is in good condition, however, any potential buyer may or may not buy it because of the interior. I am a huge fan of Vintage Gucci's and a little upset with that sweater thing that they did, however, I will not cut/throw out/sell my collection. I just wont' use any for the time being.
I am normally around in early mornings and evenings as I am now my father's FT caregiver/Uber Driver on Demand. So if needed, use this id as this is the one that I use the most now.
Hope this helps @boopa_1

Thanks for posting dvg. I just didn’t have the energy to argue. The bag not only had the classic sticky decomposing synthetic lining but that tag punch lol too. Everything looked fine to me as I stated but sonetimes I just need to back off and wait for others.
OP you can gently work off all that junk little by little and be left with a soft white cotton lining which will look amazing. You'll need a small stiff brush. You can prob look up videos and tutorials of sticky pocket/lining removal. I forgot who, but a boardie was brilliant with doing it and used to post her restorations. Someone will remember who it is. She removed entire decomposing linings like yours. As dvg stated, the exterior is good.
IF you take on the project, I know you’ll get a much higher price but please WEAR A MASK WHEN YOU WORK ON IT.

BTW I think we all tend to over-react in this day and age. With definite apologies to anyone who disagrees, I would have worn that sweater in black or white or any other color and I’m of Eastern European background and loved it. I also did not flip out when Galliano did his Hasidic numbers although I sure had no interest in wearing any of it. Sorry guys, but sometimes IMO fashion is just fashion (and a cigar is just a cigar...) I still think about that poor nonAsian kid who got slammed for wearing a gorgeous Cheongsam to her prom. I wear Chinese robes all the time as evening coats. Isn’t there more important stuff going on in this world to address beside whether a fashion item is an unintended horrific cultural or racial slap?
I think we need to stay more focused on other issues. Respectfully JMO

I think it might have been @mupcycledcouture who scraped the flaking lining.

I just remember that they came out looking almost like new.

@jsales0 & @albertabrightalberta silly me copied it, but not the person who posted it - it does work because I had one that every time I used the bag, my hand and anything that was in it had the blue from the lining - and it did work.
Here is what was done:
I have completely cleaned Gucci and others very gently using plain cornstarch and a soft nail brush. This removed all the peelings and left the soft cotton material underneath.
