Found Gucci serial number. Gucci rep says these do not authenticate number. Who does?

I found a vintage Gucci wallet (in my mom's things) and, with the help of the ebay community, found the serial number in it, and now believe it is 'real'.   A Gucci rep says they do not authenticate serial numbers.   Who does?

The wallet is +/- 50 years old.  Can I assume fakes back in the 1960's and 1970's were not adding fake serial numbers?

What's the final step to be able to say it's authentic?

Thanks, ebay community - you're the best!

Next time please don’t start a new thread. Just continue on the old one.

Gucci doesn’t authenticate. Yes fake serial numbers can be found in vintage counterfeits but no one was using genuine full quill ostrich on a counterfeit so just make sure your skin is not a stamp and is genuine ostrich.

One way to tell is to gently run your nail over a bump which is actually scar tissue from the removal of the quill while the animal was alive (if the animal was dead it would just leave a hole). You can feel the layers just like a scab and can get your nail under the layers.

If you’re selling it you can get a professional authentication. I have used both Castira and authenticate4u for vintage Gucci. Look them up. They charge around $7.50
