Tracfones are prepaid phones, but unless seller said it had time on it, you need to purchase time for it.

Hi caklo-19,

Tracfone has two type of plans: monthly plans and pay-as-you-go plans. Not sure which plan you're on but in either case, you won't have service until you've purchased a Tracfone SIM card, put it into your phone's SIM card slot and activated a plan with them. You may also need to setup the wireless internet with them on your phone so your SMS, MMS, and internet will work.

Their website should have an FAQ section that will walk you through the process.
