A lot of scams with the xBox series X

I've reported 5 of these scams within 15 minutes. This scams, the sellers allow, for you not to purchase through eBay, and leaves a phone number for contacting and using an cash app. I was scammed twice in the last two days (not in this way) but I did get a refund.

Question is and I've seen this before with in-demand items, such as this xBox...., what or why isn't eBay watching for these scams. Also, someone needs to let eBay know..., you/they can not catch covid over the phone. eBay is NOT what it use to be.

Any time a buyer or seller provides or requests direct contact information prior to a payment or requests payment be made outside of eBay, that is a violation of eBay policy and very often the start of a scam of some kind.

Other scam warning signs: any kind of request involving gift cards, or a request for a shipment to another location after payment has already been made.

eBay makes it difficult for ordinary users to exchange such contact information through eBay messages prior to a transaction, but scammers are persistent and creative, and can often find ways to obscure their information to make it difficult to scan for by ordinary methods. Once a scammer finds a trick that works, it is quickly shared and copied by others. And once a scammer has obtained your contact information, the scammer can contact you directly and bypass eBay entirely. That is why so many scams begin with a request for a text or email address.

There is no single method that can be employed that will stop all scammers; there is no magic bullet. It is an arms race where each side must innovate or lose.

So all users must constantly be on guard for any other user that makes a seemingly innocent request that violates eBay policy.

I was scammed by a guy who was super concerned that I was going to scam him. He was okay with me paying through eBay but afterwards, messaged me saying he was uncomfortable shipping the Xbox with the funds on hold. He stated that I could easily say that I didn’t receive the Xbox, get my money back, and keep the Xbox. He was super concerned and asked if he could refund a partial amount of the money to me and send it through PayPal. After I agreed, he told me that PayPal was not releasing the funds and if I could send the partial refund through CashApp. I contacted eBay and they told me that as long as the messages were within eBay, CashApp would be covered. WRONG. This guy scammed me for $300 via CashApp and when I contacted eBay again, they stated the eBay associate was wrong and required coaching for giving wrong information. I’ll get back about $500 but I’m SOL with my $300. Super disappointed that eBay would give wrong information then not help.
