Doll Identification

Re: Doll Identification

I would guess this is a compo (composition) doll from the 30s - 40s from the Horsman company. There was a similar one sold by Horsman through Sears. Different trim on the costume though. I have one in a different outfit (white with red trim and a skater applique) and she is unmarked, but definitely Horsman.

This doll was also sold by Horsman as Bright Star. Both Bright Star and the skater doll had long pigtails.

I believe only Madame Alexander was allowed to use the Sonja Henie name. The MA doll does not look like yours, the MA doll has dimples.

Re: Doll Identification

There was also a similar costume with the identical trim sold by Effanbee. The Effanbee skater doll does not have long pigtails, though.

Is your doll marked on the back of the neck or her back?

Re: Doll Identification

Sorry for the delay. I don't think she has any markings on the back of her neck. I'll recheck when I am at my dad's house.

Re: Doll Identification

Thanks so much. My mom always called her a Sonja Henie doll -- but maybe that's what she just named her!
