Shame on eBay!

Anonymous
Not applicable

Just for the heck of it I searched for toilet paper. $125 for 12 rolls of Charmin? What's wrong with eBay? Why are they allowing these listings? Last week I saw a can of Comet listed on Amazon for $12. Amazon took it down. And today I read that they kicked off thousands of sellers who are price gouging.

Another black mark for eBay.

Re: Shame on eBay!

@Anonymous

I am ticked at the scum sellers that are taking advantage of this crisis.

Believe me, ebay has been ending listings left and right.  Or if they don't catch it before it sells sometimes it's ended AFTER it sells.

Some sellers have been removed from the site according to buyers who have come to complain.

The problem is ebay is short staffed as the call centers etc are closed.  Many are working from home but I am sure not all CS agents in India etc have the capability to do so.

Here's my macro that has gotten LOT'S of use:

Ebay is removing price gouging listings as fast they can.   They are short-staffed and there is not a magic button to remove the listings in mass.

You can help by reporting items where sellers are price gouging on items that are needed for public health and safety.

The report item option is on a listing just above the description box on the right-hand side.  On the app scroll down to find the report link.

Re: Shame on eBay!

Its a different world today ... How dare they charge $125 for toilet paper ...

Going back to my younger days we had to use newspapers for wiping ourselves ... During the war there were serious shortages of stuff ... Men would search out the con artists and price gougers back then ... those ripping people off would get beat up ... Not encouraging that ... Its just how it was in the 1940s

I read in another group that no matter where she goes on line  rip off prices on dog food are everywhere ... She went to stores and they were out .... However 1 store had it ... $50 for a small bag of dog food ... How dare they

This mess will end someday ... People will remember stores who did this ... They won't be around long

Hope you are doing well Solo ... Nice to see our small loving group is still rolling along ... We all care about one another after all these years

Be Safe Out There

Re: Shame on eBay!

I think that ebay should be kicking these sellers off that are price gouging and not just ending their listings.    I know that if they do relist then they get suspended, but for price gouging on necessity items in a crisis, they should have a stricter policy.

I have not seen any price gouging in actual brick and mortar stores even though we do not have a price-gouging law.  Not sure why AZ and some other states don't have the price gouging law.

Supplies of some items, of course, are low because of the hoarders and the idiots buying to resell.

Re: Shame on eBay!

Around here local most stores are out of many things ... Never seem to get any inventory ... We tried buying here on Ebay and the shopping cart for some reason still does not work?

Sam's sent stuff but it took 2 weeks to get it  ...

Walmart has a "Pick Up" program around here ... Order it on line and they give you a pick up time and number ... Those around here who've tried it say it works good

Hope everyone is doing well ... We are doing the Quarantine staying inside for many weeks now ... Neighbors are picking stuff up for us when they go shopping ... We leave an envelope with the money outside ... They leave the stuff outside ... We are across the street and down the street from here so its been nice ... They are nice to us old folks ...

Re: Shame on eBay!

Hello Everyone,

We've been quarantining and social distancing for a while now!  You mentioned about pickup or delivering at Walmart online, I haven't been successful with it!  All the time slots in my neighborhood are completely full and they seemed to have raised the prices too!  A little price gouging in most of our stores....not fair!  I've been worried about robbers taking advantage of wearing these masks to steal!  Another concern is all the nursing homes here have really been hit hard with COVID!  Ya'll pray for Texas!  Please be safe because I've had both relatives and friends who've died with this dangerous virus.

@colus-wc9072o   So sorry for your loss of friends and relatives.   😞

I think it so sad that family members can be with their loved ones in the hospital, even if they are not admitted for Covid 19

A fellow mentors husband who is only 58 just had a major brain aneurysm and is not doing well.  She can't be with him at all.    😞

Re: Shame on eBay!

Sorry DWB about the cart.  I used it about a week ago with no problem.

I only went out last Friday for my chemo and I am glad that they are taking more precautions....I wore a mask into the building, but they gave me a plastic bag to put it in, gave me their own mask and asked me to wash my hands.

The nurse also took my temp.

Since it was my birthday, they gave me a plastic bag with breast cancer trinkets and snacks.  My big birthday celebration!

Everyone in the building was wearing a mask and I guess that they started with the extra precautions right after I was there 3 weeks earlier for that chemo treatment.

I told my nurse that she is the closest person that I have encountered in 3 weeks.  She replied that she hasn't yet figured out how to access my chest port with a dart!  LOL.

Groceries are still a problem here.  I have an EBT card, but the stores won't take it with InstaCart, or even for store pick-up.

So I tried to order from Giant Eagle where I have a gift card, but they won't take that either.

I gave my EBT card to my nurse daughter and my grocery list since that is my only choice.

I am in PA, and hope that my state will require that everyone has to wear a mask if social distancing is not possible...like Gov. Cuomo just announced.

Ang.  So sorry about your losses...how horrible.

Stay safe everyone!

First off, Denise you hang in there! I've a good friend here who is going through a similar situation. She has to go daily so it's pretty intense. Reno got a major jump on things so we aren't spiking yet but it's still next to impossible to get tested.

As for ordering and shopping, I've been home since the end of January. I think I've been cautious because of my emergency response training, my illnesses and my experience with the insanity after 9/11. Thanks to the generosity of a friend I got my toilet paper issue resolved. I absolutely refuse to buy anything on eBay.

I've been successful with getting most non-perishables from Amazon and Walmart delivery. It takes a while but other than toilet paper, peanut butter and alcohol I've gotten everything I ordered. Costco is useless. Target too. For my perishables I've been going to Trader Joe's and Whole Foods and Natural Grocers with an occassional visit to SaveMart. I only go during Senior Shopping hours. Again, I've been successful in getting most of what I need.

It is exhausting! I have the trips down to a science. I take my walker and hang my canvas bags on it. I wear gloves. And a mask. I take the rubber gloves off once I get everything in the car. I have cloth gloves I use when I get home. When I get home the perishables get wiped down and put into the fridge/freezer immediately. Everything else goes out onto the patio. I wash my hands. I wipe down everything I've touched. I wipe my hands. I take all my clothes off and throw them and the canvass bags into the wash and I get into the shower after I've washed my hands.

I have been able to stretch these trips out to a little over a week for the perishables and almost a month for everything else. Here in Reno the stores have been taking precautions for the last month. There are still people out and about without masks. I don't understand but unless they come close to me I'm not going to say anything. If they do come close they'll get a shot of my pepper spray. Oops...is my NYC/NJ attitude showing? LOL

Unfortunately we are going to have to live with this for longer than any of us would like. My brother asked me if I thought there was an "over reaction" to the virus. I directed him to the CDC site and the history of both ebola and polio. He now understands why I think we need to batten down the hatches until an anti-viral is found.

At least the NASCAR and FORMULA ONE e races are fun to watch. Have you seen them? Very realistic.

Everyone please stay safe and take care.

Re: Shame on eBay!

Sorry to hear the WalMart pick up does not work for you.
We order on Wednesday with pick up for Saturday. Been working real well for us. Try extending the time between order day and the pick up date you want. That's how we got it to work better

Can you hear me whistling with the birds?
